Surah Jumu'ah verse 9

Best day of the week - Friday

Abu Hurairah [‫رضى الله عنه‬] reported that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “The best day on which the sun has risen is Friday; on it Adam was created; on it he was made to enter Paradise; on it he was expelled from it; and the [last] hour (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) will take place on no day other than Friday.” (Sahih Muslim)

100. Supplication after a gathering Supplication after a gathering of meeting.

How many times a day do you gather with someone, even if it’s just one friend or family member? How often do your conversations contain useless or excessive speech? What if there were one thing you could say that could ensure that the sins you commit in these gatherings could be forgiven?

Even sitting down for a meal with one friend or with your spouse is a gathering, so memorize this dua and recite when you get up after concluding the gathering.

Abu Hurairah [‫رضى الله عنه‬] reported: Messenger of Allah صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ said, "Whoever sits in a gathering and indulges in useless talk and before getting up supplicates: 'Subhanaka Allahumma wa bihamdika, ash-hadu al la ilaha illa Anta, astaghfiruka wa atubu ilaika (O Allah, You are free from every imperfection; praise be to You. I testify that there is no true god except You; I ask Your Pardon and turn to You in repentance),' he will be forgiven for (the sins he may have intentionally or unintentionally committed) in that assembly." 102. To say Alhamdulillah upon sneezing while praying If a person sneezes whilst he is praying, it is prescribed for him to say الحمدلله, whether the prayer is obligatory or naafil. This is the view of the majority of scholars, and it was also the view of Imam Maalik, al-Shaafa’i and Ahmad, but they differed as to whether he should say it silently or out loud.

The more correct view and the view of Imam Ahmad is that he should say it out loud, but only loud enough that he can hear himself, lest he distract other worshippers. That is indicated by the general meaning of the hadeeth narrated by Abu Hurayrah [‫رضى الله عنه‬], that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “If one of you sneezes, let him say Alhamdulillah” Sahih Bukhaari 6224.

This is also supported by the report narrated by Rifaa’ah ibn Raafi’ [‫رضى الله عنه‬] who said: I prayed behind the Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ) and I sneezed and said: Praise be to Allaah, much good and blessed praise, as our Lord loves and is pleased with. When the Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ) had finished praying he said: “Who is the one who spoke during the prayer?” and no one said anything. Then he said it a second time, “Who is the one who spoke during the prayer?” and no one said anything. Then he said it a third time, “Who is the one who spoke during the prayer?” and Rifaa’ah ibn Raafi’ said: It was me, O Messenger of Allaah. He said: “What did you say?” He said: I said: Praise be to Allaah, much good and blessed praise, as our Lord loves and is pleased with. The Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ) said: “By the One in Whose hand is my soul, thirty-odd angels competed to see which of them would take it up.”
Narrated by al-Tirmidh #404, Abu Dawood#773 and al-Nasaa’I #931.

The Prophet (ﷺ) approved of that and did not rebuke him for it. This indicates that it is prescribed during prayer.

But it is not permissible for those who hear him to say Yarhamak Allaah (may Allaah have mercy on you), because that is part of human speech and it is not permissible during prayer. It is proven that the Prophet (ﷺ) denounced someone who said Yarhamak Allaah to a man who sneezed whilst praying, then he said to him: “In this prayer nothing of human speech is permitted; it is only tasbeeh (glorifying Allaah), takbeer (magnifying Allaah) and recitation of Qur’aan.”

Salim bin Abdullah bin Umar narrated from his father, from his grandfather, that : The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Whoever enters the marketplace and says: ‘There is none worthy of worship except Allah, Alone, without partner, to Him belongs the dominion, and to Him is all the praise, He gives life and causes death, He is Living and does not die, in His Hand is the good, and He has power over all things, (Lā ilāha illallāh, waḥdahu lā sharīka lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-ḥamdu, yuḥyī wa yumītu, wa huwa ḥayyun lā yamūtu, biyadihil-khairu, wa huwa `alā kulli shay’in qadīr)’ Allah shall record a million good deeds for him, wipe a million evil deeds away from him, and raise a million ranks for him.”

Abu Saeed Al Khudri [‫رضى الله عنه‬] narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Whoever makes wudu then says upon finishing his wudu: Subhanaka Allah humma wa bihamdika, ashhadu anlaa ilaaha illa anta, astaghfiruka wa atoobu ilaik, it is written in a parchment, then sealed; and is not opened till the Day of Resurrection.

"سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ، أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ".
Glory is to You, O Allah, and praise; I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but You. I seek Your forgiveness and turn to You in repentance.

Whoever says these words after wodhu will have this dhikr weighed on the scale on day of judgement.

Sunan Abi Dawud 345 and Tirmidhi 496

1. Starting wodhu with Bismillah Narrated Abu Huraira [‫رضى الله عنه‬] The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: The prayer of a person who does not perform ablution is not valid, and the ablution of a person who does not mention the name of Allah (in the beginning) is not valid.
Grade : Sahih
Reference : Sunan Abi Dawud 101‬‬

Imam Ahmad (رحمه الله) was of the view that it is obligatory to say Bismillah, and he quoted a similar hadeeth in Tirmidhi as evidence but the other three madha’ib are of the view that saying Bismillah is one of the Sunnahs of wudoo’, and it is not obligatory.

They quoted evidence as:
1 – The Prophet taught a man how to do wudoo’, and said to him: “Do wudoo’ as Allaah has commanded you.” (Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 302; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi, 247). This is referring to the words of Allaah (interpretation of the meaning):
“O you who believe! When you intend to offer As-Salaah (the prayer), wash your faces and your hands (forearms) up to the elbows, rub (by passing wet hands over) your heads, and (wash) your feet up to the ankles” [al-Maa'idah 5:6]

And there is no mention of saying Bismillah in what Allah commands here nor in the hadeeth.

Based on this, if a Muslim does wudoo’ and does not say Bismillaah, then his wudoo’ is valid, but he is missing out on the reward for doing this Sunnah. To be on the safe side, the Muslim should not omit to say Bismillaah when doing wudoo’.

2. Consequences of NOT praying properly! It was narrated from Hudhaifah [‫رضى الله عنه‬] that He saw a man praying (And his bowing and prostration) were lacking. Hudhaifah [‫رضى الله عنه‬] said to him: 'For how long have you been praying like this?' He said: "For forty years.' He said: 'You have not been praying for forty years and if you die praying like this, you will have died following a path other than the path of Muhammad (ﷺ). Then he said: 'It is possible for a man to pray briefly, but still do it properly."

5. Superiority of remaining with wodhu day & night Chapter: The Superiority of remaining with ablution during the day and night

Narrated Abu Huraira [‫رضى الله عنه‬] At the time of the Fajr prayer the Prophet (ﷺ) asked Bilal, "Tell me of the best deed you did after embracing Islam, for I heard your footsteps in front of me in Paradise." Bilal [‫رضى الله عنه‬] replied, "I did not do anything worth mentioning except that whenever I performed ablution during the day or night, I prayed after that ablution as much as was written for me."

No One knew about this action except Bilal [‫رضى الله عنه‬] and of course Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَ. The Prophet (ﷺ) had to enquire about it. And look how great Allah's Reward was . . .

Do any of us have an action that ONLY Allah knows we are doing?

This is what truly makes an action special . . . when you are so sincere that you seek only the Pleasure of Allah.

Give away something you absolutely love, wake up at night to pray, visit an orphanage, give out some charity, really forgive someone who hurt you, submit to Allah's Decree in something you don't like. . .
or like Bilal [‫رضى الله عنه‬] pray 2 rak'aa each time you make wudu . . . and keep it "a secret" between only you and Allah alone.

Then, on the day that you finally meet Him, you will have something special to present to Him . . . something you can be sure was sincerely for His Pleasure.

6. The secret wodhu of Abu Huraira ‫رضى الله عنه‬ It was narrated that Abu Hazim said: "I was behind Abu Hurairah [‫رضى الله عنه‬] when he performed Wudu' for Salah. He washed his hand up to the armpit, and I said: 'O Abu Hurairah! What is this Wudu'?' He said to me: 'O Banu Farrukh! You are here! If I had known that you were here I would not have performed Wudu' like this. Open all eight gates of Paradise Narrated ‘Umar [‫رضى الله عنه‬] Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said: “If one after performing ablution completely recites the following supplication: (Ash-hadu an la ilaha ill-Allahu wahdahu la sharika lahu, wa ash hadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu wa Rasuluhu) ‘I testify that there is no one worthy of worship but Allah, He is Alone and has no partner and Muhammad (ﷺ) is his slave and Messenger’, all the eight gates of Paradise will be opened for him and he may enter through any gate he wishes”.
Abu Dawood 169 and Sahih Muslim 234a

Reported by Muslim and At-Tirmidhi who added the following words to the supplication:
{ اَللَّهُمَّ جْعَلْنِي مِنْ اَلتَّوَّابِينَ, وَاجْعَلْنِي مِنْ اَلْمُتَطَهِّرِينَ }
(Allahumma aj’alni minat-tawwabina waj’alni minAl-mutatahhirina) “Oh Allah! Include me among those who repent and those who keep themselves pure”.
