I'm looking for books (in English) that go into detail about the history of Islam from Muhammad (SWT) through the 4 rightly guided Khalifas.
Specifically I want to know how the Islamic kingdom was ruled, how Shari'a was implemented, how Islam spread, how non-Muslims were treated, etc. I've listened to Imam Anwar Al Awlaki's lectures about this time period, so I have a general understanding, but I feel like he touches on the broad points and doesn't go into too much detail.
