Shaykh Feiz was asked for his opinion on 1ISLAM Productions placing copyright on his lectures - even though he had warned them against it.

I think the title is a bit inappropriate...it should be Shaykh's views on copyrighting his lectures and other islamic stuff. or something like that. Naturally he doesn't wanna put copyright on things he wants to reach as many people as possible.
I hope his views are different for movies, music, books...and other things that are meant to make profit.

yeah, but if his work, and the work of others who have copyrighted their material, gets distributed for free, then where is the money going to come in for production? they may loose it, and therefore we might find ourselves short of good lectures.

Ah well, I guess this compensates for the title:

I'm sure his views are different on such other matters...but anyways, this thread was explicitly talking about lectures...

Yes indeed, but what the Shaykh mainly opposes is the fact that some lectures are charged at outrageoues prices. This is a really looooong debate...but generally speaking...I agree with what Shaykh Feiz was saying. Anyways, let's not turn this thread into the last copyright argument we had on this forum...

well, to be honest, i didn't listen to the lecture, so therefore, i dont know what was said. i was just replying to what whatsthepoint's comment.

He mentioned that the most predominant view is that copyright of Islamic material has no place in Islam. But according to Sheikh Tawfique Chowdhury the opposite is true and most scholars consider it to be valid.

No! :) According to sheikh Tawfique is is not valid. According to the link given in the first post, it is valid to violate copyright of Islamic material.

ah huh. now i see what the hype is all about. just watched it. jazakallahu khair.
btw, sis Malaikah, i reread my previous pst. i hope i didn't sound harsh. sorry if i did.

I think people shouldn't rely on this for income and open big businesses for making a living, then there will be no excuse of making profit or not, this should be done in spare time or with any extra money you have, i totally disagree with selling them and copyrighting them, knowledge should be free.

We say there are ignorant Muslims in the world and people that know nothing about their faith well how are they gonna learn if organizations put miserable prices on them.
