significane of marriage in Islam?

exactly (from the words of our ulamaa, plz) is the significance/importance of marriage in Islam? Really, there must be more to it if Umar radhiallahu anhu said that love isn't an essential part in marriage. i dont know, to me that statement is quite powerful, and signifies that there is great wisdom which lies in marriage, more than we (I) know and meets the eye...so it would be interesting to know...
 
Love doesn't exist. Basically, its just infatuation mixed with lust and longing to not be alone.

However, marriage must not be 100% significant since we have anbiya ('Isa) and well-renown shuyookh (Imam an-Nawawi, Syed Qutb) who never married.

Marriage is a protection against fitnah though.

And among His Signs is this, that He created for you mates from among yourselves, that ye may dwell in tranquillity with them, and He has put mawadattan and rahmatan between your (hearts): verily in that are Signs for those who reflect. (30:21)

The Prophet (saws) said:

“There is nothing better for two who love each other than marriage.” (Sahih Al-Jami`, 5200)

Its Ramadan so let us not attack each other. However, I think the great majority of muslims think love is what Hollywood/Bollywood tells them it is.
 
Love is very subjectively ukhtee... but without attraction and admiration in the marriage...than it'll be hard to maintain the marriage :)
 
A lot of ppl get married through arranged marriages; they aren't inlove with their spouses at the start but then fall in love. I think that's what it must have meant. That love isn't necessary to marry someone, since with time you will grow attached to them. But love is definately necessary for the marriage to work out. Because if you don't start loving your spouse after a while, I don't think you will be able to live happily with them & the marriage will have problems. So the person should be at least acceptable to you at the start. That is, the way they look, their personality etc - you shouldn't abhor them.

Al-Bayhaqi narrated in Shu’ab al-Eemaan from al-Raqaashi: “When a person gets married he has completed half of his religion, so let him fear Allaah with regard to the other half.”

It does exist, just because u never been in love doesn't mean it doesnt exist.
 
^What you thought was love, was only a need that you sought to satisfy the nafs. Love isn't like that bro.
 
Just don't let love get to you. Most muslim men/women rush to marry someone because of "love" which is due to media and the urban culture.

I believe thats what it means. You should be patience, and see how other qualities fall for that person. The love does exist , as the brother stated from hadith and Qur'an.

Love grows and stays strong along with other qualities.

As to the significance of marriage in Islam are pretty obvious:

-half your deen
-prevent you from committing zina
-to establish a family
-to find tranquility with each other
