Re: KITTY && tania's animal thread!

:salamext:

We had one called shadow.. he was only 4 weeks old when we got him so he was proper small, he couldn't even jump on the bed. After about two years we gave him to a woman who was a vet and she's got other pets too so alhamdulillah it's good.

Some scholars say its haraam to sell cats:

The view that it is haraam to sell cats is the more correct view, because it is proven that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) forbade that, and there is nothing to suggest the contrary.
Muslim (1569) narrated that Abu’l-Zubayr said: I asked Jaabir about theprice of dogs and cats. He said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) told us not to do that (i.e., sell them)

:sl:

aww sis shakirah...that is sad...but yeah...a nice story too ;)

i heard that you can get diseases from them...am not sure though  :?

:w:

Actually you can get diseases from any animal except maybe not from goldfish.

I'm an animal lover and long was a conservationist while I had my own property. My dream was to turn the place into a wild life reuge, but that never came about. Perhaps one day some new owner will be able to.

I really enjoyed all of the wild critters that roamed my place. the oddest experience was I came across a new born fawn and the darn thing mistook me for it's mother and followed me home. I had the hardest time reuniting it with it's mother. It was scared of her. But, after it got good and hungry it decided she was nice to have around.

At one time I raised dogs but gave them up when I reverted to Islam.

Throughout my life I have had many cats. The 2 strangest ones were 2 feral kittens I had found in the woods when I was a kid and brought home. They got huge over 30 pounds each and did get quite vicious. I still have scars on my arms and legs from times they got a little irritable. When they were about 5 years old they reverted back to the woods on their own.

We got it for free, and we gave it away for free.. might aswell do that because usually cats and dogs aren't classed as animals which we need for work. Compared to horses, cows etc which people do need for work. Allaahu a'lam.

Re: KITTY && tania's animal thread!

i like those cats with the big ears!!!
i've almost always had a dog until recently.
the man next door used to feed this stray cat. after he died, she started coming over here, and then she brought a male friend and i'm feeding them (even tho i knew better) cuz i felt sorry for them.
no doubt the female is pregnant! it is so hard to find homes for kittens - can't image what i'll do if she shows up with a family.
she was a little shy at first but has gotten quite a bit better.
he was very shy but now he isn't shy at all - in fact, he's a bit pushy.
left the door open by mistake and he just came walking in and made himself at home.
while the door was open, an oppossum sneaked in (this was 2 days ago) and now it's in the house and i have no idea how to get rid of it. it's very cute - if i could tame it, i'd probably be dumb enough to make a pet out of it too!
about my other pets, well......some of you already know and the rest probably don't wanna know!
i love animals - they're so much nicer than people!

Re: KITTY && tania's animal thread!

I have 3 kittens! Well i started out with one. This lady whom my dad works with gave it to us, then she gave us 2 more! She gave it for free. Soo cute!
The lady is a crackhead and she still has a fourth one. When she gave us the other 3, they were so skinny and smelled like cigarettes!
So we gave them a bath. She fed them like every 6 hours! The day we got them, we fed them and they were really hungry. When they get old enuff to be on their own, we're going to set them free :)
Dont want to keep them house bound lol. I should put a pic =D.

Re: KITTY && tania's animal thread!

I have a cat but it spends all her life outside catching birds, mice etc. I've had it since I was a baby. It constantly scrounges for food even after being fed....
For some reason though she refuses to step inside the house and if we do manage to tempt her into the house and close the door she howls. Perhaps we have an evil spirit within our home :muddlehea :playing:

Re: KITTY && tania's animal thread!

ok since kitty you love animal and have experience, I think you would be the best person to talk to. I was wondering what kind of Parrot you got? I have a Rare Parakeet. I have trained him to sit on my hand and take bath on in his bath tub. But the thing is lately he's shedding too much feathers, I don't understand why and just getting kindda worried he's getting too small as he sheds. Any suggestions what to do? or is that normal for him to shed????
Thanks
Rabiya

Re: KITTY && tania's animal thread!

My daughter raise cokatiels and she has had many other birds. She had been a wildlife Rehabilitator and the Department of parks would bring her sick and injured birds to nurse back to health and be released into the wild. I just asked her what might be the problem. These are her Answers.

She doubts if it is normal molting as when birds molt they normaly loose only a few feathers at a time. the 2 most likely problems she suspects are mites or stress. Birds get stressed easily some things that will stress them is strangers in the house, change of environment, noises, etc. for both mites and stress a vet is your best choice.

Congratulation for the new family - they came to you in the right order: mom, dad and will follow the kittens. The opposums are looking like toys. :) I would keep it until he will decide its time for him to go.

Re: KITTY && tania's animal thread!

My daughter raise cokatiels and she has had many other birds.
But its not better to leave the birds free:) I always said the birds are borned free because they can fly, no one should harm them .Keeping in the cage is not to stressful for them:?

Re: KITTY && tania's animal thread!

I shouldn't encourage you. Oppossums tame very easily. Just do not let them intimidate you with their hissing noise and showing off their teeth when they get scared. The little gluttons love most fruits in the south they are persimmon theives. However I did find they will follow you anyplace for a banana. Only worry with them is all wild critters have a risk of rabies. the further north you live the lower that risk is. Also oppossums can grow fairly large and they can get some nasty eating habits and to put it bluntly .....stink

But she could call a vet to give him a medicine, exactly like to dogs. And if he entered in the house it means he wants to spend the winter there because may be in his own house was too cold. Its not nice to throw him out during the winter.

I assume you are talking about the cockatiels. They are seldom in a cage, they have the run of the house and think they own us.
Also they are not native to the US and would not survive. These have been domesticated for many generations. The cockatiels are hand raised and are even more domesticated then most pets. She has 4 of them 2 pairs and she usualy raises 3 or 4 chicks each year which she gives to friends. Both pairs are nearly past their egg laying ages and for one pair this will be their last year. The other pair will stop laying next year.

The other birds I was talking about were injured wild birds that the park service brought to her to nurse back to health and then release them in the wild. It is illegal in Texas to keep any wild bird, or even posses a feather of a wild bird with the exception of game birds like Quail and ducks, unless you are a licensed rehabilitationist.
