was told by many people that they are waste of time (facebook) but had to join to see for myself and think its cool. i dont accept strangers on my profile which is private to strangers and its fine. not a total waste of time imo

was thinking in the past to have an account on one of them, then I realize that I will gain nothing if I did so......but I really dont have the time to do so now......LI takes the majority of my time now
cant even balancing between LI and my study

Like most things in life, whether social websites are good or bad depends on how you use them. I personally think they're fine, with limits.

Depends on what kind of websites you are on. There are adult, porno, normal, boring, etc types of sites. They all are social sites. hi5 is all picture oriented, thus very unislamic, how are you going to lower your gaze? Myspace seems to better at least in that you can control who sees your profile and whose pictures are you bombarded with.

I agree that certain sites can be used with moderation and properly. But temptation/shaytaan is always ready to lure you away. I however, vote it bad. There are other ways of keeping contact.

Yeah, that's true. Hi5 is a definite no for me, myspace is a meh, but I find facebook to be pretty decent. Especially in that you have no choice whether to make your profile private or not..

I don't see a problem with them, there are potential pitfalls such as sexual predators and other similar things but thats anywhre children/teenagers are. The predators will go where their prey goes, whether it is an online social networking site, a park, or the local hotspot for teens. People just have to avoid doing stupid things like meeting people they don't know...of course...I did...but we had talked forever..and this eventually led to conversations on the phone further confirming each others identity to each other...we had jokingly discussed with each other that the other could be a 57 year old rapist...but now I'm pretty sure we'll be getting married one day(more than a year since we first talked and a one year anniversary in a few months)...or the equivalent of it without actually getting married since she despises the idea of putting love onto a piece of paper but that is besides the point...So I guess I did something stupid but fortunately it worked out...

Do as I say not as I do!

they invite fitnah

These sites are not great, but whilst they are out there lets take part in them and give our brothers an alternative to the useless garbage on there. There are many tools which allow you to post a daily ahadith or an ayah which could be a means of da'wah. Many members have groups for da'wah, lets take part in them and invite all those on our lists so that they may benefit too.

I personally don't look to make any new friends on there nor do I accept anyone as a 'Friend' unless I recognise the name. I'd advise everyone else to do the same too.

I cnt even keep up wit the people in my life. Let alone online people...We shud strengthen our relationships wit our families n our Muslim community.

I voted the first option.
