As-Salaam alaikum,
It is my pleasure to share with you the following words of wisdom, coming from prominent Sheikhs in the world of Islam.... for our perusal and use in everyday life. Here we go:--

(1) "Sadness departs with a sajda. Happiness comes with a sincere Du'a. Allah does not forget
the good you do. Nor does He forget the good you did to others and the pain you relieved
from them. Nor will He forget the eye which was about to cry but you made it laugh. Live
your life with this principle: 'Be good even if you don't receive good, not because of others
sake but because Allah loves those who do good.'-- Imam Ibn al-Qayyim.

(2) "A person is not a sincere repenter as long as there is no remorse in his heart, no Instighfar on
his tongue, and as long as he does not abandon sins, and as long as he does not strive in Ibaadat.
Only then will he be a sincere repenter."-- Sheikh Ahmad Hawaari.

(3) "Happy is he who wakes up in the morning and Ibaadat is his occupation, solitude is his abode,
the Aakhirat is his focus, death is his concern and with Taubah he hopes for the Mercy of
Allah."-- Sheikh Mansur Ammar.

(4) "The balm for the heart is in: Companionship with the Saliheen; Tilaawat of the Qur'an abundantly;
an empty stomach; Sallat during the night (Tahajjud) and Weeping in the late hours of the night as
a result of Khauf."--Sheikh Ahmad Ibn Aasim al-Antaaki.

MashaAllah beautiful quotes.

Thank you and JazakAllah khair for sharing with us. May Allah make us amongst the good-doers and sincere repenters, Ameen.

Respected Mufti Saheb

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakaatuh

I recall my previous sins and feel much remorse over them. Please advise me whether it is in order to recall one’s sins in this manner.

It is not sufficient to merely remember one’s sins in this manner. Sometimes recalling the previous sins itself very subtly incites the person to commit the same sin again. May Allah Ta’ala save us all. It is therefore necessary to instead visualize the Day of Qiyamah when an account of one’s deeds will be taken in front of all mankind. How utterly disgraced would one be! Every deed committed would be clearly recorded on one’s book of deeds. Moreover, one would be made to personally read out his book of deeds. In this world we feel greatly embarrassed if what we had done secretly is exposed. One should therefore consider how terribly embarrassing it will be to personally read out one’s sins in front of Allah Ta’ala. Hence if anyone wants to be saved from this unimaginable disgrace, it is essential that the sins are washed off from the book of deeds. The tears of regret and remorse in solitude is the water that washes off the sins from the book of deeds. May Allah Ta’ala grant us such tears of regret that washes off our sins from our books of deeds.

Hence merely recalling one’s sins is not sufficient. One must firmly visualize the Day of Qiyamah to gain the desired effect

(Tarbiyatut Taalibeen, pg.122).

Shaykh al-Islam Mawlana Husayn Ahmad Madani (may Allah shower His mercy upon him) advised:

‘‘Loving thedinand people ofdinis a great thing. However, to focus on the faults of others whilst not assessing one’s own faults is incorrect.’’

Malfuzat Hadrat Madani,p.76 (Delhi: Dar al-Isha‘at, July 1998 ed.) by Mawlana Abu ‘l-Hasan Barah Bankwi

Once, Hazrat Moulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi (rahmatullahi alaihi) mentioned that a well-known proverb in the Arabic language is:

“Live like brothers but deal like strangers”

Hazrat Moulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi (rahmatullahi alaihi) thereafter explained:

There are many advantages and benefits through one adopting clarity and system in one’s dealings. Whether one takes a loan, gives a loan or settles an outstanding debt, in all cases one should ensure that one reduces it in writing and keeps a record of the transaction. In this way, one will save oneself from inconvenience or incurring any loss.

For example, when one hires the services of the washer-man (laundromat), then he should ensure that he asks for a receipt as a proof of the transaction. In doing so, one benefit is that in the event of the clothes being misplaced by the washer-man (laundromat), the washer-man will not be able to deny that you gave your clothes to him, as you have proof of the transaction. Another benefit which one receives is that even if one loses the receipt, since one had taken a receipt from the washer-man, the washer-man will remain constantly aware and conscious that he had given you a receipt for your clothes. Hence, he will ensure that he returns your clothes to you.

These beautiful teachings of Shari’ah (i.e. recording the transaction, business dealings, etc.) that we have received are all favours and bounties upon us from Allah Ta’ala. Hence, Allah Ta’ala mentions these among His favours in the following verses of the Qur’aan Majeed:

اقرَأ بِاسمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذى خَلَقَ ﴿١﴾ خَلَقَ الإِنسـٰنَ مِن عَلَقٍ ﴿٢﴾اقرَأ وَرَبُّكَ الأَكرَمُ ﴿٣﴾ الَّذى عَلَّمَ بِالقَلَمِ ﴿٤﴾ عَلَّمَ الإِنسـٰنَ ما لَم يَعلَم ﴿٥﴾

Recite in the name of your Lord and Cherisher who created (man). He created man from a (mere) clot of congealed blood. Recite and your Lord is most bountiful. He who taught (the use of) the pen. He taught man that which he did not know.

وَأَنزَلنا مَعَهُمُ الكِتـٰبَ وَالميزانَ لِيَقومَ النّاسُ بِالقِسطِ

and We sent down with them the Book and the Balance (of determining Right and Wrong), that men may stand forth in justice.

(Malfoozaat Hakeemul Ummat 10/ 62)

Hazrat Mufti Ebrahim Salejee (Daamat Barakaatuhu) mentioned:

One should not pursue those things that are impossible or normally don’t happen. For example, one of us desires to become the king of Saudi Arabia. Although it is possible but it normally does not happen. Such a person will always remain in agony. One should desire those things that are possible and manageable for him.
Similarly, one should not waste his time in grieving over the injustice and abuse that were done to him in the past. This grief then affects all those that are around the person. Rather one should be happy with what one has, as this happiness brings about stamina and motivation.

Shaykh al-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah(rahimahullaah) stated as occurs in Majmu' al-Fatawa (1/39):

The greatest a servant is in terms of (holding) status and (having) respect from the creation is when he is not needy (dependent) upon them from any angle whatsoever, as it has been said:

Be in need of whomever you will and you will be his captive. And be free of need from whomever you will and you will be his equal. And be benevolent to whomever you will and you will be his leader.
And when you stand in need of them - even for a drink of water - your rank (status) will decrease to the extent of your need of them. And this is from the wisdom of Allaah and His mercy, so that the deen (religion) is all (purely) for Allaah, and so that nothing is associated with Him in worship.

Hazrat Moulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) once mentioned:

It is possible that there be good deeds in a person’s life despite him also being involved in sins. However, the noor of the heart cannot co-exist with sins. Where sins are perpetrated, immediately the light of the heart is affected.

(Malfoozaat Hakeemul Ummat 6/113)

Hazrat Shaikh Moulana Muhammad Zakariyya (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) once mentioned:

It is incorrect to prejudge any person without first investigating the matter. If you hear that a certain person is a thief, then out of precaution, it is safer for you to not allow him to enter your private room. However, without first investigating and verifying the information, do not pass the verdict that he is a thief nor call him a thief. This important principle of Deen should be borne in mind and adhered to at all times.

(Suhbat Baa Awliyaa pg. 135)

Shaykh Nasir al-Din al-Albani rh:

"Islam was the religion that laid the foundations for animals to be treated well, and not what some of the ignorant think.(that it was united nations or etc)

[Ref: Ref: Silsilah Sahihah 1/69]

Nobel Peace Prize winner “Tawakkul Karman,” ‘The mother of Yemen’s revolution,’ when asked about her Hijab by journalists and how it is not proportionate with her level of intellect and education, replied:

“Man in early times was almost naked, and as his intellect evolved he started wearing clothes. What I am today and what I’m wearing represents the highest level of thought and civilization that man has achieved, and is not regressive. It’s the removal of clothes again that is a regression back to the ancient times.”

Hazrat Moulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) once mentioned:

People regard different things to be the sign of a person’s perfection. Some people base perfection on one’s excessive ‘ibaadah (worship), while others base perfection on one’s level of taqwa (piety and abstinence). However, according to the ‘Ulama, the person who has truly acquired perfection is he who, with possessing the qualities of perfection, always keeps his weaknesses and faults before him at all times.

(Malfoozaat Hakeemul Ummat 3/321)

Hazrat Moulana Muhammad Ilyaas (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) once mentioned:

Insaan (the human being) is distinguished from all the other creations of Allah Ta‘ala by his tongue (the various forms of communication that lead to progress or retrogress). Hence, he should ensure that he utilizes this tongue in only good and righteousness. However, it sometimes happens that he utilizes his tongue in evil and wrong. Thus, just as a person can utilize his tongue correctly, by using it for the sake of Allah Ta‘ala and Deen, and excel even the angels in righteousness and virtue, he can similarly misuse and abuse his tongue due to which he stoops lower than even the swine, dog and other such filthy beasts. The hadeeth mentions:

وهل يكب الناس في النار على وجوههم أو على مناخرهم إلا حصائد ألسنتهم )جامع الترمذي رقم 2616(

Is there anything that causes people to enter Jahannum, where they will fall on their faces into the fire, more than the harvest of their tongues? (i.e. the evil deeds that they earn through their tongues e.g. lying, slandering, backbiting, carrying tales, etc.)

(Malfoozaat Hazrat Moulana Muhammad Ilyaas (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) pg. 54)

Hazrat Shaikh Moulana Muhammad Zakariyya (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) once advised a person saying: In order for you to acquire focus and remain composed at all times, it will be necessary for you to make a timetable, allocating time for each responsibility. Thereafter, if you adhere strictly to your timetable, you will be able to easily complete all your various works with complete ease and undivided attention. Over time, working in this manner will become your second nature.

(Qutbul Aqtaab Hazrat Sheikhul Hadith Moulana Muhammad Zakariyya (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) pg. 387)

Hazrat Moulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) once mentioned:

The Muslims can only gain power and rulership in the earth through them constantly remaining obedient to Allah Ta‘ala and fulfilling His commands. It is logical that if a person wants to gain a favour from someone, then he is more likely to receive it through pleasing the person than through displeasing the person. When one understands that supreme authority and power lie in the hands of Allah Ta‘ala, then if the Muslims wish to gain power and rulership, they should constantly remain obedient to Allah Ta‘ala and turn to Him at all times. How strange it is that people regard following the laws of Shari’ah to be a cause for their retrogression, and regard breaking the laws of Shari’ah to be a cause for their progress.

(Malfoozaat Hakeemul Ummat 5/350)

On several occasions Hazrat Qari Siddeeq Ahmad Baandwi (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) used to quote Hazrat Moulana Abul Hasan ‘Ali Nadwi (rahmatullahi ‘alaih),

“It is our first-hand experience that whenever a family starts progressing from a worldly perspective in wealth and material, this is the beginning of its collapse. They become the victims of fitnah and corruption. Too much of wealth is not suitable for us. There is ‘aafiyah (safety) in poverty and simplicity.”

After mentioning this, Qari Siddeeq Saheb (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) used to say that Hazrat Moulana (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) has spoken the truth. I have also seen this happen with my own eyes. Look at the condition of Baroli and Hatora. As long as there was poverty in Baroli, no one knew what fighting meant. Now that wealth is pouring in abundance, look at what has happened. Enmity for one another has increased. People are killing one another. Up to this day they are still killing one another. Hundreds of thousands of Rupees have been spent on court cases.

( Hayaat-e-Siddeeq, pg. 40)

In this time of fitnah (trial), there seems to be evil prevailing everywhere. Hence, how will one protect himself from the fitnah? One will be able to protect himself from the fitnah by creating a safe-haven for himself. This will be possible by doing three things as explained in the hadeeth:

1. Control the tongue at all times. Controlling the tongue is not confined to speech, but also includes writing which is also a form of communication.

2. Do not leave the home unnecessarily. Though it is not haraam, but if one knows that a certain place is infested with malaria, will he go there unnecessarily?

3. Focus towards your weaknesses and cry over your sins.

(Malfoozaat Mufti Ebrahim Salejee HA)

Shaykh al-Islam Mawlana Sayyid Husayn Ahmad Madani (may Allah shower His mercy upon him) advised:

‘‘One should be concerned with pleasing the Knower of the unseen. No matter how much success and fame we attain in this world, it is but for a few days. We should [seek to] attain the proximity and pleasure of that Pure Being who is attributed with perpetual eternity.’’

Malfuzat Hadrat Madani,p.107

Faqeehul Ummah, Mufti Mahmood Hasan Gangohi (rahimahullah), the Mufti A’zam of India, was once asked about participating in Deeni programs wherein certain laws of Shari’ah are violated, with the intention of gradually winning people over to Deen and rectifying the wrongs at a later time. He explained: “…
Listen attentively, there are two aspects that are required in Deen:

1) Hifaazatud Deen (making an effort to preserve Deen), 2) Ishaa’atud Deen (making an effort to propagate Deen).

Both these aspects are of great significance and importance in Deen. However, from the two aspects, Hifaazatud Deen (making an effort to preserve Deen) will be given preference over Ishaa’atud Deen (making an effort to propagate Deen). Therefore, propagating Deen through an impermissible means, which leads to the destruction of Deen is actually against Deen and certainly not in keeping to the demands of intelligence.
