It is a lot better to use 'sister' instead of 'gyal' because the former is focusing on an Islamic concept and respect, whereas the latter is simply copying street language which has little if any regard for respect, values and least of all Islamic ones.

i agree with you Akhi, but many people are from different places there not all from UK or wherever i mean the way i type i say it then type && in U.S people tend to say GYAL laying:

Isn't it street language though? People use that word in the UK, but it's not something would be used in a formal conversation.

La'ah, in Chicy where i live we pronounce it as it says>>> "gyal" not girl. Allah Hu A3lim && also it isn't street language && many people use it in a conversation. Thats the way many people in Chicy say it like in UK people say Girl we don't say that.

ofcourse we will we wouldn't say "girl" because our accent is way differnt to UK people, && also if i go to an interview if it was a muslim i would say "Ukthi or an Akhi" but if it was a non-muslim i would say Gyal/Boy.
It's written down as "girl" but pronounced as GYAL= GayAL

I've bought this up quite a few times.....But I guess people want to shorten the time they type for. Understandable to a point. Not in serious debates etc. I also speak like that to my friends and kids, just so that you don't feel like an outsider, so that you understand them better and it is easier for them to accept you, but you must also keep in mind, you need to change with the situation and the person you're talking to.

Just keep that in mind. My two cents....

I see. Well personally, when that word is used, it doesn't sound very Islamic. Even if it is the way certain people speak, referring to Muslims as 'brothers and sisters' (or as you said - Akhi and Ukhti) instead of "guys and gyals" is more appropriate.

Wow....it's like gyal is the normal, proper spelling for it nowadays. It's spelt girl, and pronounced gurl.......not gYal....I've never heard anyone say gYal.....maybe gal, but never gYal....

but i just wana say if you did go for an interview with a non-muslim obviously they don't the meaning of "akhi/ukthi" so you would say gyal or boy wouldn't you if you didn't know thier name ALLAH HU A3LIM.
