salaamz...

hola! sis' and bros

I have been learning Spanish for some years now and I think I am getting good at it especially since it is written and read (but not pronounced )like my own language.

chao cada uno..hasta luego!

are there any latino/latina brothers or sisters here? i know some people that get upset when theyre called SPANISH or even HISPANIC because technically someone whos spanish would be someone whos from spain. and most people who are called or considered hispanic/spanish are people are from south american countries or one of the islands.

any hispanic people here see that as an issue? or could they care less =)

lol mashaAllah, thats cool. from what country?

Salaamz
I am guessing Panama. I guess I know a lot about South American countries..we constantly learn about them in my Spanish class...we sometimes even watch Spanish movies which I personally enjoy coz they talk so fast and I kinda got used to that coz my language is also spoken as fast. My classmates are mostly African Americans and Caucasians n they can never understand a word they r saying..they r struggling so hard coz English is the only language they can speak n they can never get used to a new language for some reason...thank God I can speak more than one language.:)

lol yeah in my spanish class all the people that were desi or arab were good with pronouncing it because in desi and arabic languages you gotta roll the R just like in spanish lol. the other people kinda had a harder time with it =/ haha

lol its ok, desis is a term used for south asians [pakistanis, indians, bengalis, kashmiris too i assume] just makes it easier than listing them all! =)

sure..it is cool to put them all together and label them "desi" since their countries names, features and languages I am assuming are unbelievably similar...I personally find it all confussing...
thankz 4 the explanation sis..

Soy norteamericano.
En realidad, solo hablo inglés, pero a veces un poco español, y incluso menos turco y aún menos griego.

in fact, I speak only English and Urdu, but sometimes I dabble a little in Spanish or French to encourage little ones in the family to become multilingual. But it is mostly bluff on my part as I am not fluent in any except Urdu.

can't speak a word of turkish, I do have some books and dictionaries for greek (one of my sons is reading greek)

Wa-salaam

Yeah, I know. Not all Spanish speakers are speak so fast, but some do. I find it can understand folks from Spain and Chile better than say Mexico and Puerto Rico, and certainly better than Cuba. (Though I love Gloria Estefan.) But, for me, Guatamela is the worst. They have a clip at the end of their words that makes it hard for me to figure out what they just said.

But I also have a friend from Chile who speaks so fast, that even when she speaks in English I can't keep up with her. hahahah
