Hazrath Luqman :as: was granted great wisdom by Allah Ta'ala. He once said to his son:
"My dear son, avoid incurring debts, for a debt is a humiliation by day (when the creditors make demands) and grief by night (when you cannot sleep worrying about how you will pay it).
My dear son, entertain hopes of mercy from Allah Ta'ala, but let not your hopes make you bold in committing sins; be fearful of Allah Ta'ala but let not your fear make you despair of His mercy.
My dear son, if somebody complains to you that so-and-so has taken out both his eyes and you can actually see his eyes missing, do not form any judgement about the person until you have heard the other side of the story. It is possible that the one complaining may have hit the other person first and taken out his eyes earlier"
(Fazaa'il -e-Sadaqaat).

Abu Dharr Al-Ghifaari (RA) said: “A person possessing two dirhams will have a harsher reckoning on the Day of Judgment than a person who possesses just one dirham, and a person who possesses two dinars will have a harsher reckoning than someone who possesses only one.”[Al-Zuhd wa Al-Raqaa`iq article 555}

said
Remember Allah
at times of ease, and He will remember you at times of hardship. For indeed, the Prophet Yunus would remember Allah constantly, and so when he was swallowed by the whale (he was rescued). And this is what Allah says:
‘And were it not for the fact that he was amongst those who glorified Allah (constantly); he would have remained in its stomach until the Day of Resurrection.’ (Surah al-Saffat; 143-144)
And the Pharoah was a tyrant who never remembered Allah . So when he was about to drown, and he proclaimed his belief, Allah said,
‘Now?! And you were disobedient before, and were amongst the transgressors?’(Surah Yunus; 91)

''Truly, we were the beginning of this nation. There would be men, amongst the best of the companions of the Messenger of Allah
, who only had with them one surah or so from the Qur’an, but the Qur’an was heavy upon them and they were given the sustenance of acting according to it. Truly, the end of this nation will have the Qur’an upon them until even the child and the non-Arab recites it, but they will not act according to it.''

Abdullah b. Ahmad b. Hanbal describing his father (Imam Ahmad)
My father was not seen except in the mosque, attending funerals, or visiting the sick, and he hated to walk in the markets.

Imam al-A’mash said:
We used to join in a funeral procession and fail to recognize who was receiving condolences, for many people would be weeping for their own selves, not only for the dead!

Muhammad b. Ishaaq b. Khuzaimah

Muhammad b. Ismaa’eel (al-Bukhari) had many praiseworthy qualities, but three of them in particular defined his character: he spoke very little; he was not covetous of what other people had; and he did not occupy himself in the affairs of people, but instead, he dedicated all his time to knowledge.

"Beware of pride, anger, and the base kind of ambition. Live in harmony with Allah's Book, His Messenger's sunnah, and the lives of His righteous slaves. Hurry away from sinning, race to repentance and sprint forward in the pursuit of knowledge. My son, flee from lying, treachery and transgression. Be in disagreement with evil and its people, hypocrisy and its people, and foolishness and its people. Fear Allah , fear the company of those who do not fear Allah , and fear the evil speech of your tongue. Hope for Allah to forgive your sins, to accept your deeds, and to accept the intercession of your Nabi."

Al-Harith Ibn Qays said:
''When intending to do something good, do not delay it until tomorrow. When involved in something to do with the hereafter, keep yourself involved as long as you can. When involved in some worldly matter, put your mind to it (so as to get it done). And if you are praying and Shaytan whispers, ‘You are showing off,’ then make your prayer even longer.''

My sin burdened me heavily. But when I measured it against Your Grace, O Rabb, Your forgiveness came out greater.
