Surat Al-Qiyamah سورة القيامة

[umaymen]

( 1 ) I swear by the Day of Resurrection
lā uq'simu biyawmi l-qiyāmat Listen
Tafsir: Allah took an oath by the Day of Judgement when people stand before the Lord of the worlds.

( 2 ) And I swear by the reproaching soul [to the certainty of resurrection].
walā uq'simu bil-nafsi l-lawāmat Listen
Tafsir: He took an oath by the pure soul that reproaches its owner for falling short in righteous deeds and for doing wrong deeds.

( 3 ) Does man think that We will not assemble his bones?
ayaḥsabu l-insānu allan najmaʿa ʿiẓāmah Listen
Tafsir: Does man think that I will not gather his bones to be resurrected after he dies?!

( 4 ) Yes. [We are] Able [even] to proportion his fingertips.
balā qādirīna ʿalā an nusawwiya banānah Listen
Tafsir: Indeed, I am able together with gathering them to restore his fingertips in a proportionate form just as they were.

( 5 ) But man desires to continue in sin.
bal yurīdu l-insānu liyafjura amāmah Listen
Tafsir: But man by his denial of the resurrection wants to continue sinning in the future unchecked.

( 6 ) He asks, "When is the Day of Resurrection?"
yasalu ayyāna yawmu l-qiyāmat Listen
Tafsir: He skeptically asks about the Day of Judgement: When will it occur?

( 7 ) So when vision is dazzled
fa-idhā bariqa l-baṣar Listen
Tafsir: When the sight is dazzled and astonished at the time when it sees what it used to deny.

( 8 ) And the moon darkens
wakhasafa l-qamar Listen
Tafsir: And the light of the moon disappears.

( 9 ) And the sun and the moon are joined,
wajumiʿa l-shamsu wal-qamar Listen
Tafsir: And the mass of the sun and the moon are brought together.

( 10 ) Man will say on that Day, "Where is the [place of] escape?"
yaqūlu l-insānu yawma-idhin ayna l-mafar Listen
Tafsir: The sinning person will say on that day: Where is the escape?!

( 11 ) No! There is no refuge.
kallā lā wazar Listen
Tafsir: There is no escape on that day and there is no place in which the sinner can take refuge nor any place that he can seek protection in.

( 12 ) To your Lord, that Day, is the [place of] permanence.
ilā rabbika yawma-idhin l-mus'taqar Listen
Tafsir: The return and destination on that day will be to your Lord, O Messenger, for the reckoning and recompense.

( 13 ) Man will be informed that Day of what he sent ahead and kept back.
yunabba-u l-insānu yawma-idhin bimā qaddama wa-akhar Listen
Tafsir: On the day man will be informed about the actions that he sent forward and those that he left behind.


( 14 ) Rather, man, against himself, will be a witness,
bali l-insānu ʿalā nafsihi baṣīratu Listen
Tafsir: Instead, man is a witness against himself as his limbs will testify against him in respect of the sins he committed.

( 15 ) Even if he presents his excuses.
walaw alqā maʿādhīrah Listen
Tafsir: Even if he brings excuses to argue on behalf of himself that he did not do any evil, these will not benefit him.

( 16 ) Move not your tongue with it, [O Muhammad], to hasten with recitation of the Qur'an.
lā tuḥarrik bihi lisānaka litaʿjala bih Listen
Tafsir: Do not move your tongue, O Messenger, with the Qur’ān hastily for fear of its escaping from you.

( 17 ) Indeed, upon Us is its collection [in your heart] and [to make possible] its recitation.
inna ʿalaynā jamʿahu waqur'ānah Listen
Tafsir: It is My duty to gather it in your chest and to establish its recitation on your tongue.

( 18 ) So when We have recited it [through Gabriel], then follow its recitation.
fa-idhā qaranāhu fa-ittabiʿ qur'ānah Listen
Tafsir: When Gabriel has completed its recitation to you, then be attentive and listen to its being recited.

( 19 ) Then upon Us is its clarification [to you].
thumma inna ʿalaynā bayānah Listen
Tafsir: Then, it is My duty to explain it to you.
