Whether they are haram (a highly overused word), halal, or who the hey cares, you can have it removed, but you can t undo it. If you'd like to remove it as a sign of your break from your old life, that may be a good thing, but treat it like taking a new name- don't sweat it, but if you feel removing it really suits the "new you" better, feel free to do so. Just don't spend the grocery money having it done.

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatu

Allah's knowledge is with us wherever we are. Allah will Insha'Allah admit us in to Paradise with his mercy. Tatoo's bring the curse of Allah upon those who wear them. How does one who holds Allahs curse also have Allah's mercy? Y'know it's really nice to see that people care about their deen and pleasing Allah. Masha'Allah.

Are tattoos allowed in Islam?

No they are not.

Different interpretations perhaps? I'd be curious to know if the Shia allow them, since this is my current field of study... differences and agreements in the interpretation of the Sharia. I do know Judean (Jewish) law forbids them. I fought the rabbis for over a month and lost the debate - though I learned a lot.

The reasons they cited were that it was Avodah Zarah (a form of idolatry) and it bordered on necromantic tribute (my reason for wanting one). However, not all parties agree on that interpretation. In another thread here, when I mention the Shia do the 'cutting of the flesh' and 'markings' as a tribute for the dead (Ashurah festival), one poster explained that the Nazarene do this also, thus identifying another branch in contest.

Do you have any idea how terrified I get when someone interprets Sharia now? Because it really comes down to 'who' is doing the interpreting. Just something to keep in mind.

I just spent an hour trying to convince my sister (actual blood sister) not to get a tattoo. This is when I find out that she's got two already! Dang it, you try to raise them right, and they sneak around on you! Make du'a for me, please.
