Bukhari Volume 1, Book 10, Number 510:
Narrated Abu Huraira and 'Abdullah bin 'Umar:

Allah's Apostle said, "If it is very hot, then pray the Zuhr prayer when it becomes (a bit) cooler, as the severity of the heat is from the raging of the Hell-fire."

with regards to hadith, does it literally mean that? I mean it doesnt affect us, since we are in a comfortable room/mosque to do our prayers, but is it true that we can delay the Zuhr prayers if its very hot?:?

remember the condition of homes and buildings back in the Prophet Sallallahu alaihi wa salam time. Peoples homes didnt even have roofs or doors on them. So in this case is what it means. The point is because of the extreme heat. If youre not hot , it obviously doesnt apply wa Allahu 3alim

I think we've all heard the story of the man who slapped someone and then the person said that it hurt, he said that my hand is made out of skin and your body is. Yet your body still hurt.



About the cold thing, there is a aayah/verse from Qur'an:

Truly Hell is as a place of ambush,

A home for the rebellious.

They will dwell therein for ages.

Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink,

Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold,


[Qur'an 78: 24-5]



Al Haafidh Ibn Kathir said in his tafsir/explanation:


[إِلاَّ حَمِيماً وَغَسَّاقاً ]

(Except Hamim, and Ghassaq) Abu Al-`Aliyah said, "The Hamim has been made an exception to the coolness, and Ghassaq is the exception to the drink.'' This has also been said by Ar-Rabi` bin Anas. In reference to the Hamim, it is the heat that has reached its maximum temperature and point of boiling. The Ghassaq is gathered from the pus, sweat, tears, and wounds of the people of Hellfire. It is unbearably cold with an intolerable stench. May Allah save us from that by His beneficence and grace.

Zamhareer is the cold hell.. I am not sure whom it is reserved for?... I don't want to know.. but I believe it is mentioned here in the akhira section... I have it in a book which is in Arabic with no ISBN lol

What you feel from heat during summer is but a small breath from Hell to remind you with it. Abu Hurayrah, may Allaah be pleased with him, narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said, “The Fire complained to its Lord saying, O Lord! I am eating up myself (burning), so Allaah allowed it to release two breaths, one during the winter and one during the summer; the coldest days you experience result from the breath of Zamhareer (cold punishment in Hell), and the hottest days you experience result from the breath of Fire” (Bukhaari)

Well thats how it literally reads, the heat of hell is connected to the earths temperature apparently.

As regards Djinn, they are constructed of fire, so it makes sense to punish them with the opposite of what they are producing,(unless they are themselves physically affected by fire, in which case they would spend the whole of their lives jumping around in pain out of their own bodies)

^^^ interesting.. but we don't know who is to be punished where? when you die you become of the earth, yet if I grab a solid rock from the earth and hit your skull with it, you'd be terribly hurt-- same principal I believe applies to your analogy...
I am sure these are excerpts of the after life, however, we don't actually know in any depth, what heaven or hell is like... we were only told of things we can relate to.
If I say there is a place in heaven called "Tasneem", it would be just a name to you and mean nothing, if I say it is a spring in heaven, you can get a visual effect to that extent, but if you didn't know what a spring is because no such thing exists in this world, then I am sure it wouldn't have any impact on you, positive or negative. Hence we are told only of the things that we can conceive in our mortal mind. I am sure a whole new set of rules apply else where... just like a whole new set of physical laws would apply if we were living on Pluto...

So the Quran is metaphorical? I think you might be in trouble with a lot of people for that if thats what you mean.
Orthadox Islam teaching is that a Shirt made of pitch is a literal shirt made of pitch applied to real skin on real bodies that feel real pain and the fire has a defined temerature. just in a spiritual realm.

That is not what I am saying at all, although certainly in the Quran there is that which is fundamental and that which is allegorical as evidenced by this verse

I think that is just linear thinking on your part, forgive me for saying I find it absurd that you think you know so much about Islam after having read a couple of books... There are some who dedicate their life to this and still ask a scholar for help... if I am unsure of something, and I am unsure often... I ask a scholar, I don't automatically assume... It is with sincere intent that I request you try that sometime, it might prove helpful-- not every member on the forum is a scholar, even our senior members consult and err... it is what is called ijtihad..

I have minored in chemistry read all the books I can get, and still find it a challenge to infer which three sets of enzymes are required to reverse Pyruvate kinase, and the other two needed to bypass PFK-1 as well as the glucokinase step in order for Gluconeogensis to proceed.
I am a scientist by profession, and still seek help of my preceptors and colleagues. No one can go at it alone, no matter how much we think we are self-sufficient. Having a library of books doesn't mean anything if you are unaware how to use the contents. I know the German Alphabet yet can't but two grammatically correct sentences together. You have to have the key to unlock its secrets and then a whole world unravels, otherwise it is all just gibberish.

It is your own belief that it all comes down to faith, yet I can't take you down the path that led me to be a Muslim... Some things are very true yet not very provable, even by all scientific means.
If you present to the hospital with a headache, we'll have to treat you according to your testimony, but there is no headache-o-meter to measure your pain... anymore than there is a G-d-O-meter to measure divinity. .. it is a quest, and unfortunately for you has come up empty... You can live your life the best you can, and one day it will all be apparent to you, until then let's play nice!

Do you honestly think that the people during the time of Muhammed (Pbuh) were versed in the theories of thermodynamics, chemistery, or physics....? Do you believe that mankind today has achieved full knowledge of all scientific concepts.

The quran is not a science book, how ever it describes scientific concepts poetically. The quran is not a psychology book, but it describes human nature poetically.

How do you explain the concept of the internet to the ancient egyptians? Do you think a baby inside it's mother's womb has a concept of what life is like on the outside? To understand concepts like laughter, crying, or hunger?

Billions of peices of infomation will thus be availible to anyone who writes upon another tool which shall be called a "Keyboard", which is connected to the first tool.

The Baby analogy dosnt work because babys do feel hunger/ joy and crying and it also fails on a conceptual level with what we are talking about.
