As-Salaam alaikum,
In his public lecture at Maryland on 7th March, 2013, Maulana Sheikh Hisham Kabbani, may Allah be Merciful to him, commented on ayat 13 of Surah Ra'ad of the Holy Qur'an where Allah Ta'ala says:--

"And [Nay], the thunder extols His glory and Praises; and so do the angels
in awe of Him. And He lets loose the thunderbolts and strikes with them, who
He wills, yet these (are the men) who (dare to) dispute about Allah with the strength of His Power (supreme)!
(13:13)

Ra'ad is said to be an angel, Sheikh Hisham Kabbani observed, as big as the thumb. He has a whip with which he hits the clouds; he is responsible for the cloud in the sky. For those who study physics in the physical sciences, you know that when 2 clouds hit together, they make (produce) an electric shock, they discharge electricity and then you can hear that loud thunder sound. If you bring 220 volts and put 2 wires together, what happens? Sparks will fly, with big explosion. So in this regards, Allah Ta'ala shows that though in stature, His angel Ra'ad is small, yet he is Praising his Lord, and Allah gave him that power to hit the clouds with his whip... just as ayat 13 of Surah Ra'ad explains above.
