The Arabic word "fitra" is translated in English as "Innate" or "human instincts", which is a natural and intuitive human tendency to think a certain way. In Islam, one of the ways in which fitra is discussed is the natural inborn ability of all humans to recognize Allah as their only Lord and to associate all worship to Him alone.
As one grows up, this "fitra" can become distorted and spoiled by human influences that include false ideas, theories and concepts that change the way a person thinks and behaves.
Out of Allah's infinite blessings, He causes calamities to strike a believer in his heath, wealth and trade in order to remove the veils covering the fitra that prevent him from seeing the truth (I.e. the reality of Islam).
For this very reason one should never curse the situation one is in – no matter how bad it gets; for one never knows what blessing Allah is on the verge of revealing – or what blessing one already has but has been oblivious and unaware of.
Just my thoughts and reflections.
