From the famous book, 'Ad-daa Wad-Dawaa' of Ibnul-Qayyim (rahimahullaah)
By: Aboo Tasneem Daawood Adeeb al-Atharee, [Khutbah, March '05]
Transcribed by: Umm Hasna Firdous Bint Jabir *Overview* :
"Allaah wishes to make clear (what is lawful and what is unlawful) to you,and to show you the ways of those before you, and to accept your repentance, and Allaah is the All*-Knower, All*-Wise. Allaah wishes to accept yourrepentance, but those who follow their lusts, wish that you should deviatetremendously away from the right path. Allaah wishes to lighten (the burden)for you; and man was created weak." [Sooratun-Nisaa', 4:26-27]
Know that reflective thoughts are not themselves harmful; rather whatbecomes harmful are constant (obsessive) ponderings. A thought aboutsomething is like a passer-by, if you do not call him, he will pass you byand go upon his way. However, if you call him, he will dupe and deceive youby his speech, and this is the easiest thing to do for the Nafs that isfilled with falsehood. However, it is the most difficult thing to bear forthe Nafs that is contended.Allaah has placed in all of mankind two kinds of Nafs :
Nafs Amaarah (thesoul that commands evil), and Nafs Mutma'innah (the soul that is content). They always oppose each other, so what is sweet for o*ne is bitter for the other. There is nothing more difficult for the soul that commands evil thanto go against its desires by working for Allaah's pleasure, however, this isthe most beneficial thing for it. Likewise, there is nothing more difficultfor the soul that is content than to work for other than the pleasure ofAllaah. Every person has both a Nafs Mutma'innah and a Nafs Amaarah.
Additionally, there is an angel o*n the right side (of every person) and itworks in conjunction with the Nafs Mutma'innah. Likewise, o*n the left side(of every person), there is a Shaytaan that works in conjunction with theNafs Amaarah, and there is a constant, o*ngoing struggle between the two andit does not cease until this person's appointed time in this life ceases. Falsehood always sides with the Shaytaan and the Nafs Amaarah, whereas thetruth always sides with the angels and the Nafs Mutma'innah, and the victoralternates.
However, victory comes with patience and whoever remains patientand has taqwaa (fear and consciousness) of Allaah, then he will be grantedthe upper-hand in this life and in the next. This is the law of Allaah thatnever changes.

My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Al-Islaam, those of you who believe inAllaah and His Angels, His Books, His Messengers and the Divine Decree --the good and the evil of it, the sweet and the bitter of it. O You whobelieve, those of you who believe in the things that we cannot see, thosethings that are hidden from our view, those things like the Angels, and theJannah and the Naar, the Paradise and the Hellfire, and those things that wecan't see like the Jinn and our Nafs. The Jinn is a creature that Allaah subhanawata'ala has created to worship Him, similar to the human being, but he is a creature that we cannot see inthis life and this Dunya with our eyes. And as Imaam as-Shaafiee(rahimahullaahi ta'ala) said :
'Anyone who says that they can see the Jinnin this life, then their testimony, (their Shahaadah) will never be taken.Their testimony for the contract of marriage or contract of business or anytype of testimony will not be accepted for no o*ne can see the Jinn in this life. '
