I heard there is scientific evidence or reseach which shows the well is ...endless, or am I naive in considering this... :embarrass
Yahya Koshak was ccharged with the study of the well of Zam Zam. He had to investigate the water source and its outlet. After proper bathing and ablutions, two divers began a mission that had never been undertaken before. They plunged into the divine waters of Zam Zam on 17 Jumada Al Awal, 1399 Hijra, late 1970s.
Zam Zam is thirty and a half meters deep, 17 meters of which is of granite rock. The well's diameter is irregular. The part above the rocky layer is lime with a constructed well, a linear section leaning towards the Kaa'ba.
At this stage of work, Zam Zam was cleared of many objects which had been thrown in by people who believed that doing so brought good luck an dprosperity -- metal money of different epochs, seals, emblems, pottery and earthen vessels and copper objects.
The basement where the well is situated, is a big air-conditioned hall equipped separately with numerous faucets for men and women. All the faucets get water from a huge tank erected over Bab Al-Salaam and from other new tanks, all of them filled with water after being sterilised by the UV rays system.
As for the well itself, it is inside a steel cage and can be viewed throygh the glass enclosure and nothing can be thrown in it as people used to do in the past.
Water flows out of the well through an elaborate network of pipes, which includes huge pumps operating at 60 cubic mtrs per hour capacity and filters of 50 and 25 micros reservoir pumps.
