that language was spoken in the great aksumite empire

isa abdullah you should learn more about eritrea if they are your people

eritrea received it's independence in the 90's but remember the eritreans fought for it for over 30 yrs

so in the hearts of the eritreans Eritrea exsisted long before the 90's

Salaam!

Saho? What's that? An African or Asian language? Is the da'awah in Eritrea doing good? Are there any pagans people in Eritrea. I've experience obsreving da'wah among pagans in Malaysian jungle.

Saho is one of 9 Languages which are spoken in Eritrea each one belongs 2 a differnt tribe. nt 2 sure wat da dawah is like in Eritrea 2 b honest i dnt think its dat great bt Allahu'Ailam! i dnt think their are any pagans in Eritrea da 2 main religoin are christianity and Islam dats all im aware of sis sry :?
:w:

Sis fisabil'Allah are you Eritrean, if you dont mind me asking, I think the first eritrean Muslimah, I have noticed one thing about 'some' Eritrean Muslims they seem to be very relaxed as in with music and women dancing, is that all or jus a little minority I have seen?

And bro Ahmed, I think I should learn about eritrea but at the moment I got bigger fish to fry.

As for the Dawa there from what my mom seems to say it aint very effective, she is christian and she was telling me like 'Dont become like the Muslims here in the UK, they are different to the ones in Eritrea, in Eritrea they are nice they see you as equal they eat with you and you can go eat with them they dont mind slaughterin sheep for you (lol), but here they ask you if your muslim and if you are not they dont treat you well' and so she went on, it seems like they all jus live side by side, though I remember now, before I was muslim, when I visited thereI used to hear the Adhan, I so wanna go back and be a muadhin for abit.

:sl:
yes bro im Eritrean lol.
Isa trust me if ders one thing uve got right its how layed back they are lol.
majority of the Eritreans arent botheredw abot music or weather events are segregated or not, dont get me wrong the majority do pray but most of da time its "pick nd choose" wid the deen. i remeber 1 tym i wz in a hennah nd apperently they wer just gonna play nasheed, unfortunantly that wasnt case so when they started playing music i went outside den some women/Aunties came and stareted sympothing me saying "ehh maskeena dont be SUCH AN EXTREMIST"...Subhan'Allah loool!

:w:

My Mum Called me an Extremist when I told her that Islamically women should wear the Headscarf! She's not muslim though.

It just makes things harder for me, its like all my life I have known about this Muslim brother, who is known to my family, and its jus annoying cos he says he's muslim yet he drinks and so on, so anything I do they will think am being extreme

lol lets go with the basics first before we break into song and dance,

I. Common sentences

What is your name?
Masculine singular: Men iyu shimka?

I would say, as most people, "Men Shimka"

Feminine singular: Men iyu shimki?

"Men Shimki"

Plural or Polite form: Men iyu shimkum?

Yes, polite as in to the elderly and so on, "Men Shimkum"

My name is: Shimey iyu.

I never say this, I say like "Adam ye bahal" I am mentioned or said Adam

How old are you? Edmiekha kindey iyu? (masc. sing.)

Or I say, Kindey Ametka, or Kindey Edmietka

Edmiekhi kindey iyu? (fem. sing)

Kindey Ametki, or Kindey Edmietky

Edmiekhum kindey iyu? (plural or polite form)

Kindey Ametkum, or Kindey Edmietkum

I am ------- years old. Edmey___ emet iyu.

Amet I think not emet, and yes, but if someone asked u Kenday Edmietka, or in ur case ki, all you have to say is like, 19 E-ye. 19 I am. But if your saying it from scratch then the above.

Where are you from? Kabey metsik-ha /-hi /-hum?
I am from ----------. Kab ------- metsie.

It depends, on waht they mean, like what country, Kab Adi Guadad or Kab Asmera. But you said Metsie, which means I came, so if someone asks you 'Where have u jus come from' Kab Adis Abeba metsie, I mean thats how I would use it, to intend me coming just then, if someone asks me what country am from, i'd jus say Am from Eritrea, Kab Eritra, but if you say Kab Eritra metsie, u add a sense of having come, instead of jus from Eritrea, u say I have come from, get the difference? its as if you've jus come.

Tigrignians can spend several minutes before starting a conversation just greeting each other, asking for the health of all relatives, parents, children, friends, how is life?, are you ok?…etc. Greetings are important in tigrignian culture and lack of them when starting a conversation can be considered impolite.
The word Selam ("peace be upon you") is the most usual greeting word and can be used any time for any person.
Other common greetings are:
How did you spend the night? (Good morning) = Kemey hadirka /-ki /-kum
Thanks to God, I am fine = Egziabher yimesgen (singular male polite answer)

Yes your right, u can spend 5 minutes literally asking the same questions in different ways, 'how are you, everything good, hows the family, how you been, are you ok, I hope eveyrthing is fine" and thats before the other person has even answerd lol.

I dont knw if you can say Egzabiher yimesgen, I dont know cos I only know christians so I dont know if muslims say that, though i know that the word Amlah is never given to anyone but G-d the Father in their bible.

Good afternoon = Kemey weilka /-ki /-kum
Good evening = Kemey amssikha /-khi /-khum
How are you? = Kemey alekha /-khi /-khum?
Fine = Tsobuk!

Tsobuk, I have had a dilema I was teaching someone, and I was thinking Tsobuk, that is not really 'fine' as such, cos Tsobuk is something you say to food aswell, like if someone says hows the food, 'betaamy tsubuk' very nice? right? :p

Are you ok? = Dahan do? or Dahan dekha /-khi /-khum?
I am Ok or we (my soul and I) are ok = Alenna
Goodbye = Dahan kun / kuni / kunu

I think also, in tigrigna, the questions are mixed with statements, like 'your good arent you?' Dahan eha mish or Dahan do alekha. it doesnt seem like a plain are you ok alot of the time, for me anyway.

so Isa kemey alekha?

G-rm G-rm, esihi kemey alekhi?

By the way i might be wrong on the above, I dont speak tigringna alot.

Yes, eritreans tend to be very political but Im not the typical eritrean, I mean I speak eritrean I spend time with my family, but I dont really talk about polotics when they do it all goes over my head :p

I aint been there since like 1995 or something and I might be going next summer too or maybe christmas time

But in some ways I really dont wanna go, I do cos it will be cool to see the islamic side, but I dont cos just its gonna be so annoying its gonn put me in alot of bad situations and so on, plus my mom said shes gonna make me go speak to priests thats something I kinda dislike but look forward to, just to see what they say
