So weird you should say that naidamar. I was literally just reading on the history of iconoclasm in Byzantium and this exact topic. Apparently it's just as controversial amongst Christians as it is to Muslims. Funny that I never really paid it much attention until this point in my life. Anyways, weird occurrence with the lightning and such.

amazing thing that can happen when you make gods of statues!

:sl:

apparently, there were a couple of tea-baggers, erm sorry, tea-partiers, overjoyed upon hearing the news that Sarah Palin's breast were real, asking Jesus to show all those "infidel Muslims" who is boss!

at first they were overjoyed at the show of power, but later admitted their confusion, wondering why their god would immolate himself like that...

flash forward 1 year

the statue is rebuilt and Beck, O'Riley and Rush all agree it is proof of Jesus' resurrection!

oh forgive me, I can't of course take my understanding of the event to that school boy level of pedantry simply to indulge your linear tract of thoughts.. but I am still glad you found a more capable god that won't be struck by lightening or crucified by provincial oafs!

all the best
My quick wit is obviously lost on such a simple mind.

Shame.

From what I have read this statue was

a) the highest object in the area,
b) built on a steel frame, which conducts lightning, and
c) made from a plastic foam, which was easily flammable.

Given those details, perhaps this was more a case of poor human design than divine wrath ... :?

Regardless of the poor design of your god which costs almost a half a mil. when there are people starving every where including Ohio that would have benefited from the money (which I am sure your god would have appreciated more) considering they are in the collection process to 'resurrect' him bigger and better.. why are you making pagan idol statues to represent your God, if indeed your religion had nothing to do with paganism? Why break a major commandment and a few human ones and claim that you are a following a monotheistic religion when in fact it is a monolithic one, completely separate from Abrahamic ones!

As for divine wrath or not.. well, that one is left for discerning minds!

God told Abraham (as) to destroy the statues that his people worshiped/prayed to/revered.

Moses (as) was so angry when his people built a golden cow statue and put it on a pedestal.

Jesus (as) told the lost sheep of Israel to worship One God and ban any use of images and statues.

Then how on earth christians created multitudes images and statues of dead human beings, and if not outright worshiping them at least revere them?

Do the christians think Jesus (as) also abrogated the command to worship One God and ban images and likeness?

Christianity is a monolithic religion, that has nothing to do with what Abraham brought or the God that Abraham worshiped!
