Good point South Louisiana looks a lot like Thailand and they do raise a lot of rice there too.

Have you tried the borneo hill paddy. The villagers have to use helicopters for transportation.

South Louisian the people travel to a large extent in Pirogues or the more popular air boats.


Here is typical south Louisiana.

The trees in this particulr picture are bald cypress, one of the few confirs that looses it, needles in the winter months. The regular cypress keeps its needles year round. This is just a large stand of Bald cypress. the stuff hanging of the trees is "Spanish Moss" a bromeliad that is actually related to pineapples.

please explain to me...

what is pirogues? and what is air boats? is it the boat that can travel on land and water...:confused:

Wow...there must a legendary story there. We have similar to the place which i think tasik kenyir and tasik chini.

Maybe nm has been there and meet the giant water dragon.

they said it is 'pure' and suci (erm...can u say it 'holy'?). So i guess it tastes much better and other rice that can be sell.

"Holy Rice"? :uuh: the Bario farmers are from Kelabit ethnic group right? Maybe the rice has something to do with their traditional religion... like the Kadazans and their paddy spirit (Bobohizan? I've forgotten about it, but they taught this in primary schools right?)
 
Louisiana and Texas are both rice exporting states. the US does export quite a bit.

I just found this story that shows our main buyers. It made the news because a bunch of it was contaminated.

The main importers of U.S. rice are Mexico, Central America, Saudi Arabia, Canada and South Africa. Long grain rice, the type that was contaminated, comprises 80 percent of U.S. rice exports.

Pirouges are a canoe that were originaly dug out canoes. The modern ones are made out of fiberglass but look like the old wooden dug-outs. The air boats are a flat bottm boat with a big air plane engine on the back and it is pushed over the water by a big propeller. They can go in very shallow water and some people say you can use them on wet grass.

The swamp lands cover a very large area if you look at the Gulf of Mexico The swamp land extends inland for over 100 miles except in Texas where it extends inland only for 2 or 3 miles in the Southern Part and about 50 miles in the northern part of the state.

i think it should be "clean" ... "menyucikan" (cleaning).... :D

Our Tidal plane swamps are very shallow. Throughout much of them the water is only a few inches deep. But there are deep channals where rivers are flowing and some ver good size ponds that alligators dig. It is hazardous because of the cypress trees the water is a very dark brown and looks similar to coffee so you can not see how deep any part is. Plus they is a lot os quick sand. Wading in the water is hazardous. The snakes and the alligators get the most attention, but they are the smallest danger.

so far no "Nessie" but it seems each area has legends about some type of ape-man. (yeti, bigfoot, sasquatch etc) Back in the 1500s when the Spanish and French were exploring the area there was one big danger on the Texas Coast. We were home to the Churanchua ( also spelled Karanku) Indians. They were a very fierce tribe. The only known cannibals in the Americas. Although they were a small tribe, nobody messed with them. They occupied the coastal reagion and upon the early arrivals of the Spanish they watched for ships that got sunk by hitting the hidden stuff in the shallow Gulf waters. They looked at the Spanish Galleons as being floating meat markets.

they are very similar in appearance. Main difference is a true kayak is made of a wooden frame with either an animal hide or fabric covering. The entirething is sealed in except for where the passanger sits and often the can be closed around the passengers waist. In a canoe or pirogue the top is open.and they usually have 2 04 3 cross members that can be used as seats.
