Umrah, the sacred pilgrimage in Islam, is a holy journey to Makkah that can be performed at any time of the year. This religious trip contains 4 main acts or rituals. Let's explore the rituals below:
1. Ihram: Ihram is the first ritual of Umrah and Hajj. Your pilgrimage will not be valid if you do not assume the state of Ihram. For men, Ihram clothing contains two unstitched white sheets. However, women can wear any type of clothing that is modest and loose-fitting as Ihram clothing. Remember, doing different acts are forbidden after wearing Ihram clothing.
2. Tawaf: Tawaf is one of the main rituals of the Hajj and Umrah and refers to circumambulating or walking in circles around the Kaaba in an anti-clockwise direction. Seven complete circles, with each one starting and ending at the Hajar al-Aswad (Black Stone), constitute one Tawaf.
3. Sa'i: Sa’i is on of the integral rites of Hajj and Umrah and refers to the ritual of walking back and forth seven times between the two small hills of Safa and Marwa, located adjacent to the Kaaba in Masjid al-Haram.
4. Halq/Taqsir: Halq refers to the act of shaving the entire head, and Taqsir involves trimming the hair on the head by at least an inch. Doing Halq or Taqsir is an obligatory act that must be performed to leave the state of Ihram.
