I know there are a lot of interpretations as to what is allowable art in Islam. Some believe that nothing that shows a creation of Allah can be drawn, while others believe that animals can be drawn but not humans if their faces are shown, and others believe that since we could not possibly replicate Allah's glory in human art, that it is all okay as long as it does not show something that is intended to be, or possibly could be, worshiped. For example, there is a wonderful animated movie called Muhammad: The Last Prophet that was certified by Islamic councils as acceptable and accurate. It NEVER showed Muhammad (peace be upon him) or Hamza (may Allah be pleased with him). But it did show the other companions, animals, and the general public of the time.
Before reverting to Islam I drew cartoons of animals, and I know animated and drawn anthropomorphic animals (Zaky is a good example) have been used to illustrate Islam to children in the past. Would something like that be acceptable here? Would art of nature be acceptable here, and could it contain an animal or would it have to be a landscape or still life? Or is the only acceptable art here abstracts and photography?
Thank you and may Allah bless you with wisdom in your answers. For the sake of clarification, while I am very interested in everyone's interpretation as to what allowable art is, I would really like a confirming answer from a moderator, insha'Allah. But if this turns into a discussion, I pray to Allah that it is a good one that we can all benefit and learn from.
