For those of you who go to the gym, what do you do there? Also, how did you learn to lift weights etc? Any videos or articles you can recommend?

Gonna get my gym pass, inshallah.

Lol still trying to get slim tummy then hehe just do a lot cardio ie going on the treadmill at least for hr person at work bought a treadmill and did situps has now got some six pack. So just keep at it :) hope that helps.

depends what you want to do, theres loads of articles and youtube videos but to start off these should be your core mass building exercises, they will work out most of your body:

- Dead lifts
- Bench Press
- Squats

these are killer exercises so don't do them in one day

any other muscle specific exercises you want to do ask the lads at the gym - cause they will depend on the equipment available

I go to the gym mainly to keep healthy, not to build muscles, as the options for outdoor exercises in this city is pretty limited. Here's my normal routine:

- light stretching
- cardio for 45 mins (usually running on 10.5 km/hour speed)
- more stretching
- variety of machines/free weights for 20 mins
- 15 mins swimming (my gym has a nice pool on top of a building)

All very good suggestions.

The gym I intend to purchase a pass for also has a pool. I should consider going in for a dip after my work out, inshallah.

That is, of course, if I ever get around to buying that gym pass, lol.

Am at a plateau stage where am not losing any more weight. Honeymoon period of gym is over :-( but am still going 3/4 times a week. I do a lot of cardio and some weights but going to rotate and change my exercise routine in sha Allah.

Gym can be very addictive once you start. My fave machine is the treadmill/stepper and my least fave machine is the rowing machine.

If anyone out there is using protein shakes to bulk up please re-consider your decision. I was listening to radio the other day and a doctor came on stating many of her male patients have fertility problems because the shakes have too many damaging chemicals. So do it the natural way and avoid any shakes. In sha Allah.

Lower carbs?

Change routine and intensify it more.

Your body can get used to the routine if it is too constant. So you stop getting dem gains.

..go load the van.

..go unload the van.

Between those two and Mr.myagi.. I became the man I am today.

Lol..

I think it was the 80s equivalent of cross fit.

I went to gym once.. Got my butt handed to me.

Although all those work safety notices gave me proper form.. I think.

...I was once working in Morrison's and nearly threw my back lifting...

Boxes of cornflakes.

It may be that your fat has turned into muscle. Muscle is more dense than fat and weighs more. So weight loss on the scales is not a good indicator of fat loss, if that is your goal. Also, diet plays a a big part in fat/weight loss.

That's very true. Scales are very misleading. I like to think i have a lot of muscles :D

Allah swa knows best!

At gym I train my skills of karate. I already have black belt but I train for keeping my strength training.

:D

I do like 30-45 minutes of cardio, followed by weights or free weights and situps on a ball.

:sl:

My fingers get a pretty good workout...at the keyboard

lol

Usually, I do elliptical for 50 min. I plan to start lifting weights and working on abs...maybe after Ramadhan?

Any tips for gym and fasting? Please share!

Due to my young age, I usually go to daycare, were they take us to a gym. Many kids ranging from 3 - 16 years old are there. So I usually play soccer/football. That's my way of exercising
Basically soccer is my way of exercising.

If you are a male or female of average weight then the suggestion would be to either train for strength or train for size. If you have an excessive amount of fat on your body then do weight loss. In our opinion, the main exercises everyone must be doing are squats, bench press, deadlifts, and pull ups. If you are unable to do pullups, then do some sort of assisted pull up. If you decide to train for size (to build a lot of muscle), then make sure to stay in the 8-12 rep range for the major lifts (bench, squat, deadlift). If you train for strength (to build strength and not necessarily focus on muscle growth), then do no more than 5-6 reps for the main lifts. When strength training, the weight will be heavier than when training for size because you are doing less reps. Finally, when doing weight loss, lift any way you want to whether it be following a strength training regimen or size one. You should also do some form of cardio. Some people believe that the only way to lose weight is to run a lot on the treadmill. This is not true at all (speaking from knowledge and experience). The way to lose weight is to take in less calories than what you burn. Use an online calculator to figure out how many calories you are burning in a day. Use that number as a guide to count the calories you take in every day. If you burn 2000 calories a day then take in 1500 calories to have a 500 calorie deficit for the day. If you burn 3500 calories, it will be equivalent to losing a pound, so if you have a 500 calorie deficit daily, it will add up to losing 1 pound a week. It is essential to not lose more than 1 or 2 pounds a week because you want to make sure the weight you are losing is fat and not muscle. The goal is to preserve the muscle and the strength, and lose the fat.
This post was meant to be a general guide for people. If you wish for us to go into detail for your specific goals, feel free to ask. As Salamu Alaykum
