Being married to more than 4 wives should be a punishment in itself.
From a sharia standpoint, anything beyond 4 would not be valid so technically, you wouldn't be able to get a 5th+ wife unless you do it some other way. I'm not sure what the penalties are if you are caught though.

It is not lawful for a man to marry more than four women, once a person is made aware of that fact - yet refuses to accept that Quranic ruling and repent, they are to be brought to the court, and if they are found to be murtad -should receive captial punishment.
