My six year old again. :p

She's an aggressive one who doesn't hesitate to yell and scream, boss around to get things done her way. So when I taught the kids to play a memory game with I SPY cards, she became pretty good at it. But sometimes others win more cards than she does. This is a character who doesn't like to lose. And crying and sulking is of course the thing to do when she doesn't win.

So I came up with an idea. I said, "Whoever cries after the game, will be out. That person will not be allowed to play in the next game."

It worked. My six year old maintained quite a lot of control. But she was winning anyway. I decided to test her.

So the next game I played, I was the one hoarding all the cards. My six year old lost the game and her heart was broken. She was going to cry. But then I reminded her: "Whoever cries cannot play the next game."

My six year old then yells, "DO YOU SEE TEARS COMING OUT?" Then she adds trying to control her emotions, "My feelings are hurt. My heart is beating."

Yup...those were her very words. That's my girl. Very dramatic indeed. :D

My six year old said, "I'm six. I know everything."

"What about 7 year olds?" I asked.

"They know a lot." was the reply.

Based upon the above, you can imagine what my six year old's opinion is about people in their 40s or 50s. lol.

This morning, my little girl made yet another statement that made me smile.

"Miss Brady is not feeling well. Her volume is not good." ;D

why do people think it is so important to smile? Life is not beautiful that we should start smiling at it. It is a dark pit of hell that we are born into by God's will as a test and have to endure till death. No reason to smile over tests and suffering, actually doing so is delusion. Just go and visit a psychiatry ward, if you are human enough, you will never smile again.

^ well gosh....bad day?

The Prophet (saas) smiled often, and advised others to be the same
Although the Prophet (saas) bore a heavy responsibility, and despite all the difficulties he faced, he was a most humble and peaceful man, submissive to Allah. He lived the joy and ardour of belief every moment of his life. Thanks to that joy of belief and his high morality, he was always smiling and tenderhearted.

Ali (ra): "His smiling face and kind treatment of everyone made him literally a father to the people. Everyone was equal in his sight." 152
"He was always cheerful, gentle and mild."153
"He was the softest and most kind of all people..."154
The Prophet (saas) also advised his companions to smile, and said:
"Don't entertain the people with your wealth, but entertain them with smiling face and good conduct."155
"Allah loves the simple and those having smiling countenance."156

why does smiling = peaceful?

I am sure Prophet pbuh had lots of peace in his heart as his emaan was not emaan bil gayb as he had witnessed miracles of Allah swt first hand, he himself performed miracles which probably baffled his rational mind too, angel coming to him, he could not have any doubt about the existence of spiritual realm. He pbuh was promised heaven. All those things mean that he would have inner peace.

But of course he clearly viewed life as a temporary stay.

Regarding his smiling to people, he had to do it to keep people's hopes high. It does not mean that internally he wanted to smile in a dunya that is merely an enjoyment of delusion, we have no evidence of it. He pbuh only smiled so that people around him dont panic and maintain their level headedness and dont fall into depression that dunya brings.

If he was so happy about this dunya then why did he stop at the grave of his mother after retuning from his last Hajj and sit beside it and cried for hours?

It seems many Muslims have made Prophet pbuh a super-human and someone who was always happy and smiling and having fun. This is an insult to his beautiful human character and it takes away from his humanness!!! He cried perhaps more than I or you ever can.

I see where Mad_scientist is going with what he's saying.. however, Rasoolallah (SA) never smiled because he was a gauranteed janaati.. in fact, his heart was filled with dread at the thought of the Day of Judgement, where every soul is accountable for his/ her actions no matter if they are a Prophet or a regular person..

He did not smile to keep peoples hopes high... who told you that?? The mere thought of Jannat kept the people on course and made them the happiest of all..

First of all, he had love, love that few of us will scarcely ever experience for his Compainions, his Wives, etc. And he had fear of Allah's wrath, if you read what he said as his last few words then you will see... These all made him very tearful.. He is human afterall..

Smiling is not the same as laughing as you well know, and you probably know what views the Prophet (SA) held about laughter, banter, etc. I.e. he did not participate in such acts..

Smiling is Sunnah.. how can you not smile at the beautiful world Allah has created, and at Allah's creation- i.e. other humans.. It is Sunnah..

What makes me really smile, I mean really feel happy is when I am giving Dawah..

why do people think it is so important to smile?

The Prophet said smiling is a charity, and he didn't say that for no reason. Nobody is saying smile for the sake of this dunya and do not stop, but neither cry all day. Learn to have a balance inshAllah. :)

I dont think smiling means your feeling peaceful (although it can at times) there are some people who smile when they are nervous, uncomfortable, in pain, etc.
but they smile as a way for them to calm themselves down or make positive of a situation.
you said that life was a dark pit of hell that we are born into by God's will as a test and have to endure till death. And that there should be no reason to smile over tests and suffering and that doing so is delusion.

but shouldnt a person going thru a test smile and say alhamdulilah because they know that this life is only temporary and that Allah has promised them something beyond their imagination if they stand firm and believe in Him.

And of course the Prophet (pbuh) was human it makes sense for him to mourn over the lost of his mother. He had to go through so much during his lifetime but he still had time to smile even if it was to make someone feel better he still smiled he didnt have to he could have walked around all day with a frown on his face and depressed but he chose to smile anyway

Life can be depressing sometimes. Negative feelings can become overwhelming to the point where you feel like there is no hope but there is also a beauty to life there are signs and miracles that remind you of Allah and his Promises

We are all promised paradise if we are obiedient to Allah so :D bro

Assalaamu Alaaykum

Peaceful as in when putting a smile on someone elses face places peace in ones heart, if for example someone else is upset, you yourself wont be at peace unless you try do something to make them happy, putting a smile on your face will put a smile on theirs.

If Rasoollallah sallahu alaayhi wa salam was so peaceful at heart, why would he cry for his ummah day and night? Nor was he aware whether he would enter jannah himself (saw). Im sure you've read about the prophet saw, and his sincerety and the mentioning of his truthfulness in his blessed life and the tests he had, praying all night whilst his feet would become tired, how can you be sure that this man was still aware he would enter jannah? Even though he was aware he was the messenger of Allaah, even before prophethood. He performed not many miracles, and those which he did were except by the permission of God just like all messengers.

Every muslim should view life as a temporary stay, like a stranger passing by...

What do you think he put fake smiles on to keep peoples hopes high? Astagfirullah(Allaah forgive me) What about the mentions of punishments, he would tell them to keep away from such and such because it is best for them.

Indeed this dunya may seem like a delusion, but it doesnt mean we shouldnt strive to please Allaah in every way possible. He saw also smiled in the times of hardship to teach us to be patient and not give up, because if we give up there is only a dead end. Why is it that just because we cant do something ourselves, we try to make something else out of it? If the Prophet of Allaah sallaahu alaayhi wa salam taught us to smile, then we should do it as it causes peace with one another.

Crying is for its part and smiling is for its part. We are humans, and so was the prophet saw but he was the best of examples, he wept when he was sad saw, we cry when we have hardships. Just because there is hardship upon us doesnt mean we cant cry.

An example is if i have a child and they have a pet and if it died so they cry for it but dont stop thats wrong ofcourse it can become bad for there health, i have to try move on, we have to thank Allaah what happened and smile, but that doesnt still stop us from crying. We will just stay in the first level and never move to the next. We have to learn that this was the creation of Allaah and so it returned back to its creator, we must then learn to increase our faith in him and not gain hate for taking away something from us, instead realise that what happened was for the best.

Indeed i am not aware of those 'muslims' who make the prophet of Allaah to be super human but if so, may Allaah guide them and increase them in the knowledge they need Ameen. But the prophet was indeed an example set for us humans to follow, for everything he did , the way he did, we should try do that to the best of our ability.

I quote you : "If he was so happy about this dunya" He was a man who faced many hardships sallahu alaayhi wa salam. He was ready to please Allaah, he was a beautiful example for us. This 'dunya' is a temporary life, so we must strive to do as much as we can to please Allaah swt. This dunya we live in, does not mean we are not allowed to share our happiness with one another, doesnt mean we dont thank Allaah for the countless blessing he has given us. If Allaah gave us wealth, for the sake of Allaah swt we would spend it rightfully, if he gave us power, we use it rightfully. We do things in the righteous manner, if we are given knowledge, we use it to guide others and teach them.

Ill stop here, i feel i got carried away.. but forgive me if i sounded harsh, i had not intended to, and also if i didnt make sense. correct me if i was wrong.

just to make a point, smiling was prescribed for us, because it was good for us, and no doubt what the prophet saw taught us was good for us. He Sallahu alaayhi wa salam did it, and there is wisdom behind him telling us to.

Proverbs As Told By Children

A first grade teacher collected old, well known proverbs. She gave each kid in her class the first half of a proverb, and had them come up with the rest. These are great:

As you shall make your bed so shall you... mess it up.

Better to be safe than... punch a 5th grader.

Strike while the... bug is close.

It's always darkest before... daylight savings time.

Never underestimate the power of... termites.

You can lead a horse to water but... how? ;D

Don't bite the hand that... looks dirty. ;D

No news is... impossible.

A miss is as good as a... Mr.

You can't teach an old dog new... math.

If you lie down with the dogs, you'll... stink in the morning.

Love all, trust... me.

The pen is mightier than the... pigs.

An idle mind is... the best way to relax.

Where there's smoke, there's... pollution.

Happy the bride who... gets all the presents!

A penny saved is... not much.

Two's company, three's... the Musketeers.

Don't put off tomorrow what... you put on to go to bed.

Laugh and the whole world laughs with you, cry and... you have to blow your nose.

None are so blind as... Helen Keller.

Children should be seen and not... spanked or grounded.

If at first you don't succeed... get new batteries.

You get out of something what you... see pictured on the box.

When the blind leadeth the blind... get out of the way.

There is no fool like... Aunt Eddie.
