What should be recited silently in all SALAHS????

My dear brothers and sisters firstly assalamaleikum wa rehmatullahi WA BARKATUHU.......Iam a reverted MUSLIM,I recently heard that tashahuds can recited silently....Is it correct??? If it is correct, please tell me that what we have to recite silently in every SALAH???? Assalamaleikum wa rahmatullahi wa barkatuhu

If you are praying alone or on your own, then everything can be recited softly, without raising your voice. It is always important to utter all the words by your tongue, when reciting silently as well as when reciting loudly.

Only when you are an imaam and leading others in prayer, you will have to recite the Qur'an recitation part loudly during 3 Fardh prayers; Fajr, Maghrib and Isha. Dhuhr and 'Asr will always be recited silently even as an Imaam.

During Fajr, Maghrib and 'Isha, the imaam will only say the Takbeer (Allahu Akbar) and Tasmee' (Sami'Allahu liman Hamidah) loudly in every Rakat, and he will recite Surah Fatihah and another Surah after Al-Fatihah loudly only in the first 2 Rakat. The third rakat in Maghrib and the 3rd & 4th rakat in 'Isha will be recited silently by the imaam as well.


This may feel confusing at first since you are still new, but don't worry. As long as you are not an imaam, then you don't have to recite anything loudly in prayers.

No, I am not saying that.

You can recite Maghrib and 'Isha loudly if you want, even if you are praying alone.

I said, you don't have to recite them loudly, it is not compulsory as long as you are not the Imaam. For imaam, it is compulsory to recite loudly in Fajr, Maghrib and 'Isha.

Yes brother, tashahhud is recited silently in every Salah. The only part which is recited loudly by the imaam in Fajr, Maghrib and 'Isha is the recitation from the Holy Qur'an during the qiyaam (standing position) of Salah. Tashahhud is not part of that. Tashahhud is recited in the sitting position after every two rakat and it is recited silently.

Tahajjud is Nalf (voluntary) prayer and it can be prayed anytime after 'Isha until Fajr, but the best time to pray Tahajjud is the last-third part of the night. For example, if Maghrib is at 6.30 pm and Fajr is at 6.30 am, then the whole night is of 12 hours. The best time to pray Tahajjud will be to start praying during the last 4 hours, that is after 2.30 am until Fajr.

The number of Rakat is not fixed. You can pray 8 or 10 or 12 or as many as you want, but in units of Two Rakat each. That means, after every two Rakat, you should sit down for Tashahhud and say the Salam to end the prayer. And then start again if you want to continue for more.


The Witr is normally prayed after Tahajjud at the end.

Narrated Ibn `Abbas :ra:: The prayer of the Prophet :saws: used to be of thirteen rak`at, i.e. of the night prayer. [Bukhari]


Narrated Masruq: I asked Aisha :raha: about the night prayer of Allah's Messenger :saws: and she said, "It was seven, nine or eleven rak`at besides the two rak`at of the Fajr prayer (i.e. Sunna). " [Bukhari]


Narrated `Aisha :raha:: The Prophet :saws: used to offer thirteen rak`at of the night prayer and that included the witr and two rak`at (Sunna) of the Fajr prayer. [Bukhari]

3 Witr will be prayed once, either in isha salah or in tahajjud salah. If you've already prayed it in isha then don't repeat it in tahajjud. However, it's preferable to pray witr in tahajjud.
