BETTER HAVE TONS OF CHOCOLATE CHIPS IN IT!

I don't disagree with you all that math is an important subject... But I think we ALL can agree with the fact that, even if I do take math, and get whatever grades in it... That I MOST DEFINITELY won't be making any awesome or cool discovery... Good for the people who do make great 'mathematical breakthroughs' or whatever you call them... Let them study math as much as they want, because I couldn't care less about numbers... (now I know someone else is going to reply and say how important numbers are, but I don't care...) I HATE MATH!!!!!!! The way I hate math, is the way I hate my little brothers... Pieces of vermin... I feel like ripping the hair out of my head and tackling the teacher... God if it was up to me, I'd burn all math textbooks and lock up any math-loving nerd...

:omg: :omg: :omg: :omg: :omg: I only hate classic literature that they make us read in school... The only dumb books I enjoyed reading in school was St. Joan, the old man and the sea, oliver twist and..... the jungle (well i didnt finish it after i found out ona died), to kill a mockingbord (saw the movie n loved it but never finished the book itself, I dont know why).... and david copperfield, but i aint done with it yet.... and now theyre making me read 'waiting for godot'... ugh... i heard its about two men who wait for a guy who doesn't exist... jeez... people these days.... we should all sit down and read 'Spongebob Squarepants: The Movie"

or "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"

now those are excellent for high school students, they're pratically books for Yale and Columbia students! I feel so proud that it took me such a short time to finish it all.... Man, I must be some child prodigy....:coolsis:

I LOVE HISTORY.... But only world history and ESPECIALLY Ancient Egyptian History... man, I'd do A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G to be able to see the pyramids....

BUT MATH!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!??!?!

NO COMMENT....:zip:

I do.

A lot.

(Typical English teacher, I know.)

So many kids sit through "Shakespeare lessons" without being enabled to understand why Shakespeare is so important in English speaking countries.

He pretty much invented the language we speak today, and many people quote Shakespeare directly without realising it. Now, I know that when we read his works, they don't look or sound like modern English at all, but if you compare them to what came before, you'll get what I mean. Shakespeare has the largest vocabulary of any writer in English except James Joyce, and is responsible for introducing many new words into the language, as well as many common phrases.

Here is a partial list of words coined by Shakespeare (that is, each word first appears in a work by him):

Shakespeare coinages

And here is a piece of writing (by Bernard Levin, in the Times) which is almost entirely made up of Shakespearean phrases:

If you cannot understand my argument, and declare "It's Greek to me", you are quoting Shakespeare; if you claim to be more sinned against than sinning, you are quoting Shakespeare; if you recall your salad days, you are quoting Shakespeare; if you act more in sorrow than in anger, if your wish is father to the thought, if your lost property has vanished into thin air, you are quoting Shakespeare; if you have ever refused to budge an inch or suffered from green-eyed jealousy, if you have played fast and loose, if you have been tongue-tied, a tower of strength, hoodwinked or in a pickle, if you have knitted your brows, made a virtue of necessity, insisted on fair play, slept not one wink, stood on ceremony, danced attendance (on your lord and master), laughed yourself into stitches, had short shrift, cold comfort or too much of a good thing, if you have seen better days or lived in a fool's paradise - why, be that as it may, the more fool you, for it is a foregone conclusion that you are (as good luck would have it) quoting Shakespeare; if you think it is early days and clear out bag and baggage, if you think it is high time and that that is the long and short of it, if you believe that the game is up and that truth will out even if it involves your own flesh and blood, if you lie low till the crack of doom because you suspect foul play, if you have your teeth set on edge (at one fell swoop) without rhyme or reason, then - to give the devil his due - if the truth were known (for surely you have a tongue in your head) you are quoting Shakespeare; even if you bid me good riddance and send me packing, if you wish I were dead as a door-nail, if you think I am an eyesore, a laughing stock, the devil incarnate, a stony-hearted villain, bloody-minded or a blinking idiot, then - by Jove! O Lord! Tut, tut! for goodness' sake! what the ****ens! but me no buts - it is all one to me, for you are quoting Shakespeare.

Is that amazing or what?

Peace

EDIT: Hey, that automated censorship ruins it. Pesky computer logic! The obscured word is the same as the surname of the man called Charles, who wrote Oliver Twist, Great Expectations and A Christmas Carol. Although how Shakespeare knew about him I've no idea...

What is the stupidity behind it all, and how did you discover it?

Shakespeare's language is amazing, although I don't think you'll find the word "hathest" in any of his works.

Peace
