I'm interested to see what everyone is watching :D

Currently I'm watching

The walking dead
Fear the walking dead
Person of Interest
Quantico
Homeland
The Flash
Blindspot
Billions
The 100

Yes I really do watch this many shows lol. Some of them are on mid season breaks or the season just finished.

So which shows do you watch and which are you favourite? My favourite is probably Person of Interest or Homeland.

These TV shows are addictive. After one episode you will get hooked on, one after the other. You will lose track of time.. After finishing the whole season, that would of been 50 hours watching time!

Time would be spent better elsewhere :ia: :).

Many are so busy watching vloggers, TV shows and other people living their lives. That they forget to live their own lives :(.

Brother, while I sort of agree with you this method of thinking is unlimited. We study all day or work all day, some have screaming kids or busy households and we all need to relax. Reading the Quran and studying the deen is not always sufficient. Can you honestly read the Quran for 5 hours? After just 30 minutes my head hurts...

Winding down is a very important part of keeping your sanity. Watching tv, playing sports, doing your favourite hobby, socialising etc. Life isn't ONLY for studying the deen.

I was watching Downton Abbey, and then it finished :( Don't ask me why I liked to watch it, lol. I try to watch the Apprentice - I find it so irritating but it;s gripping. Apart from that....I honestly don't watch much television as a whole. Particularly during summertime, I practically live outdoors in my garden so I have no option of bring the telly out so it stays inside.

btw, I don't think he meant in terms of non-stop ibadat all the time. Of course we should as Muslims read the Qur'an frequently, and I try to spend an hour a day learning about the deen, but the concept of worship in Islam is very broad. There is nothing wrong with watching television, but I mean something like 5 hours a day would be excessive and make my own head hurt :D

Other things such as community work, writing, spending time with your family, baking, doing a hobby, long walks....these are all much more productive and rewarding ways inshaAllah to use your time. When I was little, my mother had a tv rule of 'no more than 2 hours a day', and I'm still into that habit myself.

I am focusing on TV shows in general in my post. Nothing about Deen or reading Qur'an for 5 hours straight :O.

How I feel :O:

Of course all in moderation. There are better activities you can do to "wind down". My sort of stuff would be to relax near the sea, or drive in nice scenery and so on.... differs from person to person of course :).

I know many people find watching series fun, just don't overdo it :ia:. Also try and avoid series where you know that Islamically isn't right.

Remember the series makers have MADE it addictive, they have cliff hangers for a REASON.

Just wondering.. After all those series have you ever been on a "Binge"? Watching several episodes at once. Many people usually do.

Was reading this on binge watching: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/09/04/binge-watching-tv-harmful-to-your-health_n_5732082.html

And a particular comment stood out which I will share here:
Interesting insight into our psychology, especially the savana one. One solution is: sell your TV and stop wasting your precious time with watching made-up stories. There is so much in real life that can enrich our lives and our minds, like nature documentaries, or films based on true stories. The film ends, so get on. No such addiction to endless episodes of anything have to take the better of you.

I'm sorry dear Farhan! I didn't mean to put words in your mouth I just thought you were trying to tell me watching tv is a waste of time.

I'm 17 and live in the city so I don't have many options to wind down. Pretty much just shopping or watching tv :D Also I don't binge watch them because I watch each episode as it comes out so it's usually only about an hour or two a day spent watching tv shows.

Ohh no worries.

Some of the other things you can do, as sis noraina mentioned :):

I'm just going to post something our dear sister ~Zaria~ wrote in another thread:

Not only is this a meaningless activity - and hence a waste of precious time, but we should not forget that the components of these movies are haraam/ undesirable in themselves - music, acting, violence, unlawful interactions between the opposite sex, gazing upon men and women for unnecessary purposes, and who are most often not appropriately covered, subliminal messaging, the creation of a 'dream-like' state that removes a persons remembrance from Allah - to name a few.

Let us not forget our purpose in life - the worship and remembrance of Allah, and the journey to our final destination, the Hereafter.

Our time on this earth is running out by each and every minute that is passing.

It is not meant for idle amusement, or entertainment that results in the displeasure of Allah, or which distract us from His remembrance.

:wa:

MashaAllah some excellent ideas mentioned by sister @noraina in her post.

May Allah grant us the ability to obey Him in every moment of our lives. Ameen.
