I think if I ever commit to being a Muslim I'll call myself Bilal. As a white English guy I really appreciate how Mohammad saw that the measure of a man was neither nationality nor social status nor race, but piety.

its a shame I can't sing!

You do not have to be good at singing....i know alot of people who can not sing to save their own lives and they'll say that but have an incredible voice when it comes to recitating Quran. So don't let that put you off. When you learn the rules for tajweed (meaning to improve, make better) then you automatically end up having a good voice.
