Why do a majority of people who represent Islam go off on crazy protests and riots?

I do believe Muslims should be allowed to protest, however there is too much violence. It's harming the environment (e.g. burning stuff) and scaring/hurting/killing civilians. Also it's giving this video more publicity.

I admit, it is absolutely pointless to protest over insults towards Islam, unless you want to vent your frustration. It is not practicable to ban every single material that are offensive to Muslims. I'm more angry with these protesters than the video maker. If there were no protests, I would not have heard about this stupid movie.
 
Video about demontrations about this film I can´t send as here hasn´t had kind of them. Imams of islamic centers have condemned them yes but no riots on streets.

We need to re-address the way Protests are managed by our Muslims. Our hapshackle rag-tag way of doing things leads to a mob mentality that often makes us seen aas the aggressors rather than the victims. Is this "stopping an evil with the tongue" ??? I outlined my idea for the management of Muslim protests in a previous post but I'll paste it here

My idea is that if a protest was to be planned by Muslims, then to do it without banners, to make it known that all protesters turn up in white Muslim attire, to show unity. To have a leader who is knowledgable who can head the protest with a microphone and speaker system - one voice not one hundred blinkin' thousand. for him to speak in clear, audible tones, and not shout like an idiot - he has a microphone and speakers - remember that. For him to educate the protesters at the protests of the issue at hand. For him to propose questions to the party they are protesting against. For the leader of the protests to determine a method for their arrival and dispersal, and to make it a requirement that we are here ins the name of Islam - and what THAT means, namely "PEACE" and not any action that compromises the essence of that peace.

If we could plan a protest like this, Each time the Amir would say Allahu Akbar, the multitude of quiet protesters would then all chant in unison "Allahu Akbar" and that would show unity for the same vision, the same ideal ...


If we could manage this - then I would say "Yes, let's do this". But no leader, no intellectual, nor any man worth his salt has even suggested a solution yet... why is that? we too busty bickering and pointing fingers like idiots to realise there is a way out of this mess.

The method I propose is in the nature of the hadeeth you posted akhi. I am not saying otherwise. And like you, i am also saying that "The protests and worldwide condemnation of the film are justified, the violence and stupidity of protestors however are certainly not." - as an example.

Bottom line is, WE NEED TO RE-ADDRESS WHAT A MUSLIM PROTEST SHOULD BE.

I dont believe protests per se are the problem, the root cause of violence is extremism and we need to somehow put an end to it. I do not want to go down the sectarian route but no one can deny that there are certain groups out there, although a minority in number who are damaging and misrepresenting Islam. It only takes one person to ignite a flame before it spreads like wildfire and the day the Umah is rid of exremists and half baked Scholars who brainwash innocent Muslims, the day we can all protest like civilised human beings.

Sorry, but i watched today on the news the Central London protests over the anti-islamic movie and it got me so mad. Immature things like burning the USA flag and holding signs telling Americans to get out of "Muslim lands"....

If muslims who agree with such behavior (clearly a lot who represent my religion do) then how do you expect people to show you any amount of respect?

Its like when two children fight. One starts name calling and words are exchanged until it gets physical. The true respectable person is the mature one who can keep his peace of mind and have security in knowing who they are as a person to not be affected by words, and remain indifferent to others opinions about them.

Why is the first reaction of an anti-islamic film to go and kill Americans? Is this really what you want to show the whole world what Islam is? Its like waving fresh meat in front of a shark behind bars. They want you to go mad and you fall for it every time.

Personally, i would love to see the film and what its trying to portray about Islam. Its interesting to see different peoples opinions whether they try humiliate you or not. If you get offended then you have an insecurity about your religion. Perhaps if it really is such a ludicrous film, you could make a better movie to counter act that in a peaceful informative way. NOT GO AND START RIOTING AND KILLING PEOPLE!

Its so irritating for me to keep seeing the same reactions happening over and over again. I honestly think a lot of the muslim community need to stop being so sensitive.

Whether the movie was a provoked attack or not, rioting and murdering is NOT going to solve ANYTHING, in fact, it makes things MUCH worse.

Do you really believe in your hearts that by behaving like this people are going to see eye to eye with you? Why cant these muslims who behave like this just sit back and get on with whatever they were doing?

It really annoys me because Islam is meant to be so peaceful yet although you may think things such as movies tarnish the reputation of Islam, going out and rioting and violently protesting as well as killing tarnishes Islam's reputation to outsiders 100 times more.

I don't think most people who represent Islam act like this. A Muslim woman who works with in an inner city school and is wearing a hijab is representing Islam. A Muslim Palestinian man who prays in Hebron in defiance of the IDF and settlers who humiliate and repress his people everyday is representing Islam. A Muslim who engages in discussions with non-Muslims in a convicted yet respectful manner is representing Islam. I have seen Muslims from such categories in my life, and I see them as living out their faith. There are millions more like them.

How many Muslims-in total- go around burning embassies and flags? Hundreds? Let's give a really large estimate? Maybe ten thousand? Still a drop in the bucket of those who represent Islam by believing what they believe and treating others around them with love and dignity and courage.

Perhaps, but this is a question I have heard many ask. I think it needs to be addressed.

The media will most often show material about people of certain religions when it is negative ('suicide bomber kills dozens in Afghanistan', 'priest arrested for sex abuse'), sometimes when it's neutral (ie 'the haji started today' or 'the pope is visiting Poland'), but very rarely if it is positive. You will hear story upon story of Muslim clerics calling for violence or televangelists ripping off their congregation or bishops hiding sex abuse but what you won't hear about usually are fundraising drives in mosques during Ramadan to help starving people overseas or Christian volunteers in the inner city working with kids who are on the street.

Priests in the media often get a very bad rap.

I found a very sad yet at the same time encouraging document on ICN (Independent Catholic News). It is a list of 38 Catholic priests, missionaries and laity who have been murdered in their line of work in 2009. All of these people died very violently, in most cases killed by criminals in robberies or assaults. Some of the killings seem to have been religiously or politically motivated. What is more noteworthy was how they lived- they chose to place themselves in service to God by working in poor neighbourhoods, villages, slums; places affected by the deepest poverty and often sorrounded by great violence. Their short obituaries are about lives spent advocating for human rights, teaching street children, speaking out against corrupt politicians who oppress the poor. They died because they followed their faith- by intentionally placing themselves in impoverished areas with high crime rates and areas of conflict, they put themselves in situations where the risk of injury or death was far greater than it would have been had they chose to live and minister in an area that would have been somewhere 'safer'. They believed in Jesus and gave their whole lives to Him. They will share in His resurrection and will spend eternity with Him.

Don't get me wrong. The sexual abuse of children and fraud and embezzlement that some in positions of power in churches have committed and continue to commit are wrong and inexcusable. They can not and should not be in any way defended, minimized, overlooked or shrugged off. The perpetrators should be handed over to the police and they should spend years if not the rest of their lives behind bars. If they do not repent while in prison, their stint will be nothing compared to what is waiting for them in hell. When priests and pastors commit crimes, it is reported in the secular media.


The heroic examples of the men and women mentioned in the ICN report have for the most part gone unreported though and that is a shame... often enough if a Christian pastor or priest, anywhere in the world, does something horrific like molesting a kid or engaging in slavery or being a cheat or leading a freak cult... and the media gets a hold of it, they will be more than happy to let everyone know. Yet when a man who has spent 34 years of his life ministering to homeless street kids on the streets of Recife, one of the most violent cities in Brazil, is shot to death in a robbery that caps more than 3 decades of service and work to help victims of poverty... you guessed it, no one knows or even cares.

A pedophile or cheat or racist is as much representative of Christianity as an infuriated rioter is of Islam. And we can rest assured that is what the media will pick up. Yet the Muslims and Christians who spend their lives living out their faith and humbly and sacrificially loving their neighbours and trying to make the world around them a better place, rest assured they will most often be ignored.
