Will I still get rewarded?

Assalamu alaikum,

Today I bought big chips, but unfortunately I could not eat them anymore, so I decided to give to an old poor man, but he refused it.

So, will I still be shown mercy from Allah if I have tried to share food with him? Or, I won't get any reward just because I could not eat anymore?

Yes, if you had more than what you needed, then even if you gave someone to save it, God would give you reward even though you would give something to others, despite your needs. So it gets a lot of reward
