yeah, i suspected They wouldn't let you get rid of media player 11.
can you play all the files now that you couldn't play before you downloaded the codec thingie?
if so, i think i'll go for it - since you survived it. brave i am not! ;D

we're talking about stupid windows media player version 11 which comes on the evil, unneccessary and stupid vista that has been foisted on us innocents by the even more evil microsoft, replacing the completely fine and adequate and well-functioning and much mourned XP.

well, here's a specific example of the glories of the wonderous and marvelous (and underappreciated until it's too late) media player 10. it will play videos downloaded from youtube. (i learned how to do that here, btw - )
it carries on about it and asks a bunch of dumb questions, but once that is over with, it plays them happily enough.
version 11 - no. :raging:
i don't know if you have these kinds of files, but if you do - after you downloaded this codec thingy, will the reprehensible loathesome and revolting windows player 11 play them?

I would avoid Windows Media Player like the plague - it's far too twitchy and unreliable.

I use iTunes for music, but for everything else I use VLC, which will happily play just about anything you throw at it.

i have VLC, (which i also learned about here, lol!). it's great for many things, but for some reason when i want to play a dvd from my hard drive it won't do it and you can't get past the menu page. so i've found windows player 10 to be the best all-around for the stuff i have.
giggling: you should see the looks i get when i tell people about this stuff and tha i learned about it on my islamic forum! it's quite worthwhile!;D )

Weird - I've never had that problem with VLC. Computers continue to baffle me!

Btw, I've still yet to hear of any reason why I should upgrade to Vista, so I'm sticking with XP for now...

Are you ok with multiple media programs? Just hang in there, Service Pack 1 for Vista is coming shortly!

do multiple media programs require Brilliance and Geek Brains?
my problem is mainly with the youtube files. they will play with VLC but VLC has its own issues with other files, as i mentioned. i would like one player that could handle everything.
but i guess that would be too simple.....
some folks is never satisfied.
