Salaam. Is it halal or haram for a muslim male not to work ? Please advise with evidence according to Islam. Thanks.
 
Wassalam. In Islam you'r supposed to work and support yourself, and family, but if you are not able to find a job you've got to keep on trying.
 
What if a muslim male takes anti psychotic medication every night for mental health issues ? Are they still expected to work in Islam ?

If muslim male is sick and can´t work by this reason, of course it change the situation. But if medication helps his condition enough as he can earn his own living, why he wouldn´t work then? (If he can find a work.)

The general rule is if you are a husband then you will need to be the provider - if your not well in sha Allah, your wife can support you if she agrees to this.

If your not married your free to choose what you want to do as long as you are pleasing Allah swa, keeping parents happy and attending to your needs as well.

You don't have to work for someone - you can also go down the road of selling goods on e-bay or setting up an online site so at least you can support yourself in sha Allah. It's a good feeling standing on your own two feet, if one can do this in sha Allah

:salam: brother.

Many people take anti psychotic medications and work. Perhaps you are getting side effects. In which case please approach your doctor or specialist as they may be able to carefully try to see if another may be more tolerable.

I think that should be your first approach.

If there is no alternative medication, is there any job you can do at all, within the constraints of your health/problems you are facing, like some of the suggestions above? If not, then somebody looking after you medically should be following that up for you and arranging for you to get the help you need.

If you're after an answer Islamically, you need to consult with a knowledgeable person, and they will likely ask you more questions, to get a better understanding of your particular situation. We, as lay people are not going to be able to give you an answer, as we don't know the situation. It may be that there is no halal/haram answer, just advice even. But you have to ask.

May Allah grant you shifaa and ease, and rectify your affairs, ameen.

Any other thoughts ? Is it possible for a muslim male to go to hell if they do not work ?

Going to the hell is not so simple matter at all. If you can´t work for some reason why not try to make some kind of charity works. Make good deeds and works and live your life following good manners, pray and live a balanced life.
 
I am a businessman. This is my job. Yes, working does not always mean work in someone else's company. If you have your own business, you are working.

I started my business when I was young, but then I made mistake which made me fall into bankruptcy. I lost my business. But I didn't want to surrender. I tried to rise again through working as freelance salesman. I traveled around the city on my old motorcycle to find a customer. The income that I got?. Very low, only enough to cover my operational expense. It made some people around me wonder, and sarcastically they told me "rather than work but get nothing, it's better you stay at home!".

Then did I stay at home?. No!. This is not my way. Beside seek an income I have other motivation to work, to fulfill my duty as a man. That's why I choose to still work. Alhamdulillah, later I could establish my own business and now I can fulfill my family needs.

My brother, if you feel your condition makes you hard to work as full time employee in someone's else company, you can create your own job although it's just part time job. You can make handicraft and try to sell it to people, you can offer your will to wash other people cars. For this time you don't need to think about income. It's okay if you just get free lunch, as long as you have activity of working.

Working, bro, working. You are a man. Working is not just a duty for a man, but working is the honor of a man.

Nabee صلي الله عليه و سلم has in Many narrations encouraged men to go out and work rather then depend on hand outs, hence for an able, healthy man not to work would be reprehensible.

With regards to somebody who's on scheduled medication, one will need to consult with a medical specialist on the pros and cons of having a patient in the working environment.

Ultimately, it boils down to your intentions. Nothing else.

Do what you can. And be patient doing it.

It depends the products they sell in there. If they sell pork or alcohol, you should avoid kind of job.

If you are living in some islamic country for example where kind of products are not in the shops, selling food etc. is not haram at all.
 
Because of dealing with the alcohol and pork products which are haram.
 
I'm a muslim and I try to live within its law. The problem is I live in a secular society. The way in which I nourish my physical self is through a system that has elements of riba'. And it has spread to almost every part of our lives. Music, TV, Internet and exposure to everything that tries to sway us from the straight path. So, nearly everything could have elements of 'haram' in it, which then leads to 'waswas' then we are immobilised.

Are you selling the stuff, actively promoting the sale of such things? What you are doing is trying to earn an honest living until Allah opens the way for you to find something better.
