Hello everyone!

I am a Christian student taking a class called "Christian encounter with Islam." My professor, wanting us to be as fair as possible, has had us reading the Qur'an (or, at least a translation/paraphrase of it!) the Hadith, and some other sources.

But, he also wants us to actually interact with Muslims. One of our assignments is to speak to or dialogue with a Muslim about their faith. Sadly, I do not know any muslims personally, and I thought I would reach out here.

My intention is very simple: What does it mean to be a muslim? What is it like? What do you believe? How can my biases and misunderstandings be corrected? There is no agenda or proselytizing on my part. I simply want to learn.

If interested, please let me know. I can give out my phone number over direct message, or we can have an email exchange.

-Thanks!

Being a Muslim. It means having faith in one God. But belief in One Ness of God is just the beginning point of being a Muslim. We have to prove ourselves till the end of times that we believe in Him. How do we do that? We are obligated to bow to Him 5 times a day.. We have to control our nafs throughout the day and specifically during ramadan. We have to show that we care for His creation through zakat.. And we have to keep reminding this to ourselves to save us from waswas of shatan.. How do we remind ourselves that? One we pray five times a day as I mentioned earlier.
2ndly, we have firm faith in evrywrd of the Quran that was sent to the last prophet Saww

Being a Muslim is a reward in itself. If i give 10 USD in zakat, Allah multiplies it by a 100. If someone is mean to me but I forgive him, THEN Allah bestows his mercy on me as well. But being a Muslim is a challenge as well.. Satan is constantly trying to drive us away from the right path.. So it can be a tug of war sometimes between right and wrong within ourselves. But if we come out successful, then surely we will get the best of the best.. Here and in the hereafter. That doesn mean life is a bed of roses.. Allah too test's us through different means.. Sometimes it's our spouse, sometimes wealth or sometimes children become the test.

What bias do u have against isla.

Hi! Thank you so much for replying. Preferably, We would talk on the phone or over email or something of that nature. If you don't feel comfortable doing that, I can ask you questions On here.

Would you be comfortable talking on the phone or should I just interact with you on this forum?

Please know I am happy to do whatever you would like, there is no pressure!

Peace be upon those who follow the guidance.
Greetings,
Sure, you will get your answers here but on a condition that you will learn islam for yourself as well, and not just for assignment....
On the forum, it would be better as all people would be able to answer. Or if u wanna ask on call, then any brother would help.

Great to see your open-minded approach! I’m happy to help however I can. If you'd like, we can chat right here or move the conversation to email or messages. Feel free to ask anything about Islam—beliefs, daily life, or anything else you're curious about. Looking forward to your questions!
