I agree with this statement completely; however, retaliation is a natural human predisposition that should not be forbidden. Jewish law calls for, "Show no pity: life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot." Deuteronomt 19:21 while Christianity unconditionally calls for 'turning the other cheek'. Islam strikes the middle ground in allowing retaliation, but shows that forgiveness is better.To forgive someone does not rest on the fact that they are repentant. Forgiveness is more for my benefit, I cannot change the past, but if I carried the anger inside me that demanded justice or revenge it would eat away inside and destroy me.
