w.salam
I didn't realise you were not well when I wrote this. Sorry, islamgyal!
About learning Urdu ... remember that I came into this forum in the first place to understand my Muslim neighbours better.
Now I have a better understanding of the Islamic faith, learning the language seems the next logical step ...
I am still soooo frustrated with the Muslim women in my neighbourhood, who have lived in this country for years without attempting to learn English!
Well, if they won't learn English, I'll have to make an effort at Urdu ... so there!!
Problem is, it may take me a long while.
Peace and well-being for you, sister! :sister:
Peace glo
Here I stand.
I can do no other.
May God help me.
Amen.
Come, let us worship and bow down •
and kneel before the Lord our Maker

Hi glo, just wanted to say, urdu is not the muslim language or islamic in any way. arabic is the *muslim language*
and i can understand your frustration at my fellow muslims not knowing english. i think they should learn at least a little for communication reasons!
and not to confuse you, but are you sure all your neighbours speak urdu? not punjabi or hindi or anything?
Our Lord! Verily, we have heard the call of one calling to Faith: 'Believe in your Lord,' and we have believed.
Our Lord! Forgive us our sins and expiate from us our evil deeds, and make us die (in the state of righteousness) along with Al-Abrar
I was just thinking that if you want to buy something but don't know the language very well, all you need to do is point to what you want and say "I want that one!" ("Mujhe woh chahiye")
Peace glo

Right, I have written down what we have gone through so far.
How does this sound:
Me UK mi rehtee hou.
Mera naam glo hain. App ka kya naam hai?
Meh teek taak hun. Keeya haal he?
How do I ask somebody's age?
How old are you? I am ... years old.
How about other adjectives to describe feelings? Instead of saying 'I am fine', how do I say 'I am sad/happy/ill/hungry/thirsty/angry/lonely/tired etc?
Peace glo

Hi amani
You are of course right.
All the Muslims in my local community are from Pakistan, and I understand that the speak Urdu.
Are Punjabi and Hindi also languages spoken in Pakistan? If so, how different are they from Urdu? I mean, if I learn Urdeu, would a Punjabi speaker still understand me?
Thanks for your comments. It's helpful to think about these things.
Peace glo
