IRNA news agency reported on Sunday that South German state of Hesse plans to adopt ideological test for Muslims seeking German citizenship, joining Baden-Wuerttemberg in this controversial measure that sparked outcry among the Muslim Community in the country.

Muslims who wish to obtain German nationality will face a lengthy interrogation including 30 questions on applicants' political and cultural views.

Muslims applicants must also have resided in Germany for the previous eight years and have no criminal record.

The questionnaire will also ask Muslim immigrants about their stance on the German constitution as well as the country's values, the interior minister of the state of Hesse, Volker Bouffier said.

Baden-Wuerttemberg presented a new handbook which contains 30 questions testing the applicant's loyalty towards the German constitution.

The measure became effective on January 1, and Baden-Wuerttemberg state officials plan to question Muslims more intensely than other applicants.

Among questions Muslim applicants must answer is how they view September 11 attacks on the U.S. Christian Democratic-led state governments in Bavaria, North Rhine-Westafalia, Thuringia and Saxony expressed strong objection to the anti-Muslim campaign.

Also the government in Saarland adopted a wait-and-see attitude to see how it’ll work out in Baden-Wuerttemberg.
