Synthetic Ihram confiscated

Jeddah – The Ministry of Commerce confiscated large quantities of Ihram clothing for failing to meet Saudi specifications. Ministry inspectors said the fabric used in the manufacturing of the Ihram clothing could cause skin allergies since it was 100 percent synthetic, Al-Madina reported.

According to the Saudi Arabian Specifications and Standards Organizations (SASSO) Ihram clothing must be made of cotton so it can absorb the sweat of pilgrims in the hot climate.

Inspectors said they confiscated all the synthetic Ihram clothing which was imported and made the importers sign an understanding not to import synthetic Ihram in future.
