“It’s less than a week left till the final trial of Fahad Hashmi.”

Imagine; You haven’t seen the sun for 3 dark years. You’re in a small cell under 24 hour video and audio surveillance. Forced to use the bathroom and shower in full view of the video cameras spying on you. Taking your meals alone in a cell. You cannot see any other detainees. You cannot write letters to friends and cannot make calls to anyone but a lawyer chosen for you. You’re prohibited from participating in group prayer. One hour a day you're allowed to leave your prison cell, where you’re also kept in total isolation.

Your Locked up in solitary confinement – total isolation – for 3 years, waiting for a trial.

This is the situation of your brother Fahad Hashmi.

    <img alt="">
fahad - “It’s less than a week left till the final trial of Fahad Hashmi.”

    What is his crime?

He is accused of helping al Qaeda by allowing rain gear (raincoats, ponchos and socks) that were going to Afghanistan to be stored in his Queens apartment, he supposedly allowed his cell phone to be used to contact “al Qaeda supporters” and he made post-arrest “threatening” statements.

Keep in mind that all these are accusations, and everything that is being mentioned is heavily subjective and can easily be manipulated (since the “quoted terms” can easily be twisted to suit the agenda of the prosecution.)

The Crimes Perpetrated* against Fahad in Prison:

-He has been punished in Inhumane Solitary Confinement Conditions.
-He is denied the lawyer of his choice.
-He is not allowed to send or receive letters to friends or the outside world.
-He is not allowed to contact the media at all (to make his situation known to the public.)
-He can only get a visit from one member of his family through a heavy screen for one hour every other week, unless the government takes away those visits to further punish him. The government took away his family visits for 90 days when he was observed shadow boxing in his cell and talked back to the guard who asked what he was doing.
-All this without even being proven guilty, without having the right to fair trial for 3 years.

*See Eighth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
It’s less than a week left till his final trial (the 28th of April 2010.) This trial will effect whether he is freed, or whether he stays in these conditions even longer.

    What can you do?

Fahad is unaware of the world around him, he does not know that he has supporters. He might have few supporters, or many – if people like you can show that you will join him in court. This will mean so much to him; he will realise that he has a huge amount of supporters since his isolation, he will feel joyous that he is being remembered by everyone and that he is not forgotten.

This one-time opportunity will affect his future well being, and you can make that difference for the better.

    "500 @ 500″ is an effort to gather 500 people at the SDNY Court for Fahad Hashmi’s Trial;

    When: Begins - April 28th, 2010 [ Trial lasts appx 2-3 weeks]

Where- SDNY Courthouse, 500 Pearl Street, Manhattan NY [In front of Judge Preska]

TRAINS to the SDNY Courthouse: J, M or Z to Chambers St. (north exit to Foley Sq.); #4, 5, 6 to Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall (north exit); A, C to Chambers; R, W to City Hall; 1, 2, 3 to Chambers; E or PATH to WTC; B, D to Grand.

If you cannot visit him in court, then atleast pray for him. It may be that Allah answers your plea and eases the life of our brother.

only 3 days till the trial.

trial28th - “It’s less than a week left till the final trial of Fahad Hashmi.”

Among the situations in which du’aa’ is more likely to be answered are: [...] when a Muslim makes du’aa’ for his brother in his absence.

The prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said: 'There is no believing servant who supplicates for his brother in his absence where the angels do not say, 'the same be for you'' [Muslim]

Ex-Brooklyn College Student Hashmi Sentenced To 15 Years In Prison

By Chad Bray Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--A former Brooklyn College student was sentenced to 15 years in prison Wednesday, after he admitted in April to letting a friend from Queens stay in his apartment in London in 2004 and briefly storing items there that were later given to al-Qaeda operatives in Pakistan.

At a hearing, U.S. District Judge Loretta Preska in Manhattan sentenced Hashmi to 180 months in prison, to be followed by three years supervised release.
"As the government has pointed out, Mr. Hashmi knew exactly what he was doing and where that equipment stored in his apartment was going," the judge said.
Hashmi, 30, pleaded guilty on eve of his trial in April to a single count of conspiracy to provide material support to al Qaeda.
In a rambling statement that lasted more than 10 minutes, Syed Hashmi, a Pakistan native and naturalized U.S. citizen, cited the Koran several times, railed against the conditions of his incarceration and tried to explain his crime, claiming in part he gave his friend money for his friend's sick daughter.

At times he read the statement so quickly, it was hard to hear. The judge asked him to speak slower at one point.
"I take full responsibility for my actions," Hashmi said.
Hashmi, who has a long, black beard, broke down several times during his statement. He wore a white skullcap and blue prison garb.

At his plea hearing in April, Hashmi said a friend told him he was taking waterproof socks, ponchos and outdoor camping equipment to al Qaeda, and he gave the friend $300 to buy a plane ticket to Pakistan. Prosecutors had described the items as "military gear" in court filings.

Hashmi is the first person to be extradited from the U.K. to face terrorism charges in the U.S. He was taken into custody at London's Heathrow Airport in June 2006 and brought to the U.S. in May 2007.
As part of his incarceration, Hashmi has been held in a special housing unit at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan and is subject to so-called "special administrative measures," which include limits on his ability to meet with persons outside the presence of his attorney, limits on his contact with the news media and recordings of conversations between his cell and other inmates.
His supporters claim the measures have severely limited his ability to communicate with the outside world and that he's not allowed any physical contact with family members.

innalilah wa inna ilayhi raaji3oon. 15 yrs? what a waste of life

that article is a load of rubbish that seems to be full of contractions and inconclusive information. its not half obvious that it is written in a certain way with a certain intent in mind.

what they mentioned...well to me, it seems like it could mean anything it looks like they've chopped and changed a few words here and there and strung an article together with out-of context quotes.
