I am very angry about this.

My country is just so small but we do well.
But now the goverment decided they need a pay rise.

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Singapore's government ministers, already among the world's highest paid, will see their annual salaries jump by about 60 percent to an average of S$1.9 million ($1.26 million), a minister told parliament on Monday.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will see his salary rise to S$3.1 million ($2.05 million) from an estimated S$2 million, which will be five times the $400,000 that U.S. president George Bush earns.

Prime Minister Lee said last month the salaries of Singapore ministers and top civil servants might have to rise to as much as S$2.2 million (US$1.45 million) because they had fallen way below benchmark top salaries in the private sector.

The announcement sparked an outcry. Hundreds of Singaporeans signed an online petition and wrote to the state-controlled newspapers to protest against the move.

Some Singaporeans said the salaries do not reflect the country's economy or the government's performance, and that the government was tactless to raise ministers' salaries now given Singapore's widening income gap.

Since 1994, the salaries of Singapore ministers have been set at two-thirds the median pay of the 48 best-paid bankers, lawyers, accountants, engineers, and executives in multi-nationals and manufacturing firms.

"For the public service to remain an attractive employer, our terms must keep pace with the private sector," Defense Minister Teo Chee Hean, who is also minister in charge of the civil service, said in parliament.

The salary increase -- which will take effect in two steps by the end of next year -- is slightly smaller than the government had originally proposed.

The problem is that the say to keep good vicil servant they should pay them well.

We agree

But they wish to increase the salary of the civil servant to mathc that of the private sector.
Our goverment is comparing the minsiter pay with the CEO of Multinational companies that are in Singapore that are PROFITABLE and HIGH SALARIED.

Their result is that they are paid too low.And thus they need an increment.

Our Senior Minister even went so far as to say that if we did not raise the salary,then corruption comes in.
So when asked,with the current salary you are Holding,,are then corrupted now?

If increasing your salary,would it stop your corruption.??

And Singapore is the 4th non corrupt country in the world,our Senour Minister Lee Kuan Yew,in response to the top 3 non corrupt countries low paying salaries

"They are mediocore"

And in another summary siad if they are paid low,then their corruption is higher.

The Minster will get a huge pay increase while the elderly will get an increment of 30 dollar,,a measely 300,for their meal,healthcare and so on..


Is this right??

Why am i highlighting this?
Becasue her in Sg we are powerless,if we raise an issue or protest we will be detained under Internal Security Act.
Any group of people numbering more than 4 are considered an illegal company.

Even those who have lost their lives due to the SG linked companies careless were NOT ALLOWED TO SUE them,

So pls raise this awareness,i know it is small in comparison to the war and so on,but every little bit of pressure on our goverment helps/.
