    Beautiful Attributes of Allah (swt)

    Report bad ads?

    As-salaamu alaykum,

We know that Allah (SWT) has both Sifat al-Jamal (Attributes of beauty), which give us hope and make us seek his love, forgiveness and mercy, and Sifat al-Jalal (Attributes of Majesty) which make us humble ourselves, and fear our Lord.

Let us list into this thread some of the hadiths, verses of the Qur'aan and words of the Scholars, which show the immense mercy, love, forgiveness and other beautiful attributes of Allah, may He be Exalted.

Please could you provide a reliable source that shows that the attributes of Allah are classified into sifaat al jamaal and sifaat al jalaal etc?

    JazaakiAllah khayr.

I learned that from a reliable and well-known Egyptian scholar, called Omar Abdelkafy. He has worked in the Da'wah field for over 30 years, has a doctorate, and follows the Qur'aan and Sunnah.

Re: Beautiful Attributes of Allah (swt)

as-salaamu alaykum wa rahmatullaah, I think what the sister Insaanah was referring to evidence from the Qur'aan or the Sunnah or the understanding of the pious predecessors concerning this division. When the Ulema look at Allaah's Sifaat (attributes) all of them are considered Kamaal (perfect and complete) meaning they have no aybe(blameworthy quality) or naqs (deficiency) but rather they are perfect and complete. As you know, part and parcel of the beliefs of the Muslims is that we believe in Allaah's Sifaat, all of them that we find in the Qur'aan and authenticated Sunnah of His Messenger (sallallaahu alayhi wa salam). We affirm only those whom Allaah affirms for Himself in His book and those whom Allaah's Messenger informed us of in his authenticated Sunnah. And we negate whatever Allaah negated from Himself and that which the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa salam) negated from Allaah. We do not make Tahreef (distort or change the attribute of Allaah to other than its intended meaning) Nor do we do Ta'teel(negate the attribute altogether if Allaah affirmed it for Himself because as Sheikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah mentioned in Aqeedatul Waasitiyyah) : For verily He is the Most knowledgable about Himself Subhaanauhu and other than Himself and He is the most truthful in speech and there is no one better at conveying His reality aside from Him" Nor do we do Takyeef (give the modality to the attribute or ask how this attributes is with Allaah) Nor do we do Tamtheel (likening the attribute of Allaah to that of His creation) Because Allaah says, "laysa kamithleehee shayun wa huwas sameeul baseer" (42:11) There is nothing like Him and He is the all Hearing the all Seeing. What is significant about this ayah is that we find a common thread through this ayah and that is An-Nafee wal Ithbaat. Nafee means negation and Ithbaat means to affirm. Allaah negates all likenesses to Himself yet He affirms the ability to hear and see. So we affirm to Allaah what He affirms to Himself and we negate from Allaah what Allaah negates from Himself. Because we all know of the narrations of Imaam Maalik (rahimahullah) concer said, concerning Al-Istiwaa (Allaah's ascension) when that man entered into the masjid and asked Imaam Malik about Allaah's ascension)to which Imaam Malik (rahimahullaah) said Al-Istiwaa Ma'loom (Al-Istiwaa is known)[from the Qur'aan] Wal Kayf Ma'qool (and how is not possible to be understood) Wal Imaanu Bihi Waajib (to have have faith in it is obligatory) wa Su'aal anhu Bid'ah (and to question about it is a religious innovation) So Imaam Maalik ordered that this man be thrown out of the masjid. And our pious predecessors used to say about Allaah's Sifaat, "Amiruhaa Kama Jaa'a Bi Laa Kayf" (Accept them as they are without asking How). So i am curious as to know if your Sheikh gathered these classicifcations through Tatabiu3 Wastiqraa'uu which basically means that the Ulema have went throught the Qur'aan and Sunnah extensively and extracted from them principles and understandings needed to make the affairs of the creed easier to understand and teach.

    wa rahmatullah,

That's what I'm doing. I'm following our ulamaa. This man is an 'aalim, and knows incredibly more than you and me. He is a haafidh (memorizer) of the Qur'aan, Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim..! He doesn't bring anything from his own whims. He follows the Qur'aan, Sunnah and the salaf more than anyone on this forum. Seriously, let's first learn to respect our scholars, who've dedicated all their life to studying and researching Islam (as for this man since he was small). He learned from the famous sha'rawi who had more than a million listeners, and Muhammad al-Ghazali. Let's learn to respect our scholars first.

Re: Beautiful Attributes of Allah (swt)

    My absolute favorites:

    «إِنَّ اللهَ يَتَجَلَّى لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَضْحَك»

"Verily, Allah will appear before the believers while He is laughing."

Narrated in Muslim (1/367) on the authority of Jabir. This will take place on the open plains of the Resurrection place.

Laqit ibn Sabrah (radiyaAllahu 'anhu) reported that the Prophet (saw) said: "Verily, our Lord 'azawajal laughs at the despair that His servants feel, even though His Help is so close!"
So Laqit said, "O Messenger of Allah - may my mother and father be given as your ransom - and does our Lord laugh?"
The Prophet sallaAllahu 'alayhi wasallam replied, "Yes!"
Laqit said, "In that case, we will never give up hope of receiving good from a Lord that laughs!"

    Ibn Majah in his Muqaddimah
    Beautiful Attributes of Allah (swt)

Do not argue with your Lord on behalf of your soul, rather argue with your soul on behalf of your Lord.” - Dhul-Nun

"It is the very pursuit of happiness that thwarts happiness." - Victor Frankl

Re: Beautiful Attributes of Allah (swt)

There is no need for arrogance and if you judge the haqq (truth) by numbers that that isnt the yardstick for guidance. As for this man sharaawi that you speak of then know with certainty that he is not from ahlus Sunnah wa jamaa'ah and he was as far.from salafiyyah as the east is from rest. his aqeedah.was ash'aaree, he was a sufi and upon misguidance, so if your sheikh took from then he must have been misguided as well. Sharawi used to give tafseer of the on tv in misr (Egypt) during Ramadan and he would make Ta'weel of the Quran upon his desires and would rarely ever quote any authentic hadeeth. So be mindful of who you take your knowledge from because this is deen.Wa Billaahi at-Tawfeeq
