cousins aren't classified under such category (check)
the majority arent a fan of consanguineous marriages whether distance or first (check)
Not enough scientific evidence (as in cold hard data) without confounders to prove that, the birth defects in consanguineous marriages not (incestuous) ones are different than the general population (check)

I am a woman of science, I don't usually go by people's feelings or observation. In order for anyone to make a strong point, they'll have to give me data with the following
P value
confidence interval
relative risk
confounders in the study if any, and the type of population studied..
If you are studying an Ashkenazi Jewish population for Tay sachs diseases especially in a consanguineous marriage, then I can just take your data and throw it out the window knowing the relative risk in their population as one in every 27 Jews in the United States is a carrier of the Tay Sachs' gene.

you bringing on TV a bunch of families with said disease to make a point against a consanguineous marriage will then be laughed at by the scientific community, even if it might sway the general public..

I can drown you in medical jargon if I make that my desire.. but I have no wish to do so, I think the example I have given with the Ashkenazis is quite sufficient for those who understand how the scientific method and research models work...
