    Good things & evil eye

    Report bad ads?

    1. Should we share our happiness with people?

    2. Some people keep certain things in secret to avoid bad things from happening due to the evil eye.

For example, There is a lady who's pregnant. Her cousin can't have children because of an accident she had. Can her cousin and her family's bad heart cause bad things for her?

Re: Good things & evil eye

    Aslaamu`Alaaykum

Im afraid thats classed as being "suspicion" which in Islaam is forbidden.

"O ye who believe! Avoid suspicion as much (as possible): for suspicion in some cases is a sin: And spy not on each other behind their backs. Would any of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? Nay, ye would abhor it...But fear Allah: For Allah is Oft-Returning, Most Merciful."

So by Allaahs will no bad things will be caused by the women, unless you believe what he forbade you to.

To your First Q, what do you mean?

Share happiness as the blessings Allaah bestowed on you?

Anyways, ill leave the first Q of yours to the other members on this forum Insha`Allaah, they can answer you in more detail

Yes. My point was, can people cause bad things happen to others via the evil eye? If yes, why? It's not like the person envied has done anything wrong.

Perhaps my wording wasn't the best.

Re: Good things & evil eye

    Wa alaykum salam,

I think we should trust in Allah, seek refuge in him, be thankful for what he has given us and pray the duas for protection day in day out generally so that things such as evil eye don't affect us.

It's okay to share happiness but we should be sensitive to the people that we are going to share the news with. For example, if it's a person who is unable to have children, no need to go shouting 'omgg guess what!! I'm gonna be a mother '

    Yeah.

I was just wondering if there was a Hadith or a verse that said something (whether encouraging or not) about sharing the blessings in your life with friends and family.

    Jazakiallah.

Are you saying that there's no basis to the evil eye in Islam? But I do recall reading a hadith about it.

Jazakiallah for the verse. I did find it helpful.

    Wa Iyaaki Sis

As far as i am aware the evil eye is classed as "suspicion" but if im wrong may Allaah forgive me i should have found out first and someone correct me if so.

Insha`Allaah i dont have the hadeeth about happiness with me, but inshaAllaah someone can provide.

There are ahadith on the topic of Evil Eye, but its an area which is often disputed over its authenticity. Without going into the disputes; its understandable that hasad (jealousy) is a real problem, and Suah al-Falaq is an answer to it.

    Aslaamu`Alaaykum

    Did you mean this Hadeeth?

Yahya related to me from Malik that Muhammad ibn Abi Umama ibn Sahl ibn Hunayf heard his father say, "My father, Sahl ibn Hunayf, did a ghusl at al-Kharrar. He removed the jubbah he had on while 'Amir ibn Rabi'a was watching, and Sahl was a man with beautiful skin. 'Amir said to him, 'I have never seen anything like I have seen today, not even the skin of a virgin.' Sahl fell ill on the spot and his condition worsened. Somebody went to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and told him that Sahl was ill and could not go with him. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, came to him, and Sahl told him what had happened with 'Amir. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, 'Why does one of you kill his brother? Why did you not say, "May Allah bless you (tabaraka'llah)"? The evil eye is real. Do wudu' against its effects.' 'Amir did wudu' against it and Sahl went with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and there was nothing wrong with him."

    [Bukhari and Muslim]

I thought suspicion was same as evil eye subhaanAllaah, i apologise

    And Allaah knows best

Re: Good things & evil eye

There is no place in Islam which obligates and forces us to share our happiness with everyone we know! Yes, Happiness is blessing of Allah swt but it does not mean that we start announcing it to the whole world, posting on facebook "I got a new car" etc etc.

Happiness should only be shared by people who care about us, who play an important role in our mental and spiritual growth, who value our happiness!

Evil eye can be cause by hasad or plain jealoys, by the will and leave of Allah. We should avoid telling and sharing our happiness with people whom we suspect to be jealous and evil wishers.

May Allah protect us from the evil of the jealous and the magician.

Alhumdolillah sister you realised that this was not true , and there are quite some ahadeeth about the evil eye or the" ayn " as reffered to in arabic. So not only the evil eye is true but also it is very serious , not only one can be harmed by the evil eye one can also be killed by it! The evidence for that will follow InshahAllah in this reply.

And sister runaway , what we need to do is we need to put ourselfes in the Protection of The best of protectors, Allah subhanahu wa taala.

you will see in this repy that There is notthing wrong in sharing our good with people , but we on our part should be putting ourselfs in Allah's protection.

And alhumdolillah, our deen is sooo complete and soo easy and practcal and the Prophet sala lahu alihi wa sallam has taught us how to put ourselfs in Allah's protection.

There are many things , Like doing the adkhaar of morning and evening, and trust me not only are they soooo easy they are also BEAUTIFUL and amazing if you ponder over their meanings.

And Offcourse we need to do our salahs/prayers all five of them on time, and we also have the adkhaar f going to bed and waking up.

But i must insist the prayer and the adkhaar of morning and evening are very very important.

Not only for protecion from evil eye and hasad envy and other evils , it can also protect us from shaytaan and magic and other evil things. from the evil jinns n mankind.

    Evidence for evil eye

“And verily, those who disbelieve would almost make you slip with their eyes (through hatred) when they hear the Reminder (the Qur’aan)…”

    [al-Qalam 68:51]

Al-Saddi said: “[This means] they would harm you with their eyes (evil eye).” Tafseer al-Baghawi, 8/202.

This is also indicated by the general meaning of the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): “The (evil) eye is real.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 5740; Muslim, 2187.

Ibn ‘Abbaas and others said, commenting on this verse: this means, they put the evil eye on you with their glances.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The evil eye is real and if anything were to overtake the divine decree, it would be the evil eye. When you are asked to take a bath (to provide a cure) from the influence of the evil eye, you should take a bath.” Narrated by Muslim. Al-Nasaa’i and Ibn Maajah narrated that ‘Aamir ibn Rabee’ah passed by Sahl ibn Haneef when he was bathing… and he quoted
    the hadeeth.

Imam Ahmad (15550), Maalik (1811), al-Nasaa’i and Ibn Hibbaan narrated from Sahl ibn Haneef that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) came out and traveled with him towards Makkah, until they were in the mountain pass of al-Kharaar in al-Jahfah. There Sahl ibn Haneef did ghusl, and he was a handsome white-skinned man with beautiful skin. ‘Aamir ibn Rabee’ah, one of Banu ‘Adiyy ibn Ka’b looked at him whilst he was doing ghusl and said: “I have never seen such beautiful skin as this, not even the skin of a virgin,” and Sahl fell to the ground. They went to Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) came and said, “O Messenger of Allaah, can you do anything for Sahl, because by Allaah he cannot raise his head.” He said, “Do you accuse anyone with regard to him?” They said, “ ‘Aamir ibn Rabee’ah looked at him.” So the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) called ‘Aamir and rebuked him strongly. He said, “Why would one of you kill his brother? If you see something that you like, then pray for blessing for him.” Then he said to him, “Wash yourself for him.” So he washed his face, hands, forearms, knees and the sides of his feet, and inside his izaar (lower garment) in the vessel. Then that water was poured over him, and a man poured it over his head and back from behind. He did that to him, then Sahl got up and joined the people and there was nothing wrong with him.

علام يقتل أحدكم أخاه ، إذا رأى أحدكم من أخيه ما يعجبه ، فليدع له بالبركة
So the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) called ‘Aamir and rebuked him strongly. He said, “Why would one of you kill his brother? If you see something that you like, then pray for blessing for him.” from the above hadeeth.
Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in al-Mishkaat, 4562.

If one of you sees from his brother or from himself or from his wealth that which he likes then he should Ask Allah to bless it for him , for indeed the evil eye is true/real.

The Arabic word al-‘ayn (translated as the evil eye) refers to when a person harms another with his eye. It starts when the person likes a thing, then his evil feelings affect it, by means of his repeated looking at the object of his jealousy. Allaah commanded His Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) to seek refuge with Him from the envier, as He said (interpretation of the meaning):

“And from the evil of the envier when he envies”

    [al-Falaq 113:5]

Everyone who puts the evil eye on another is envious, but not every envier puts the evil eye on another. The word haasid (envier) is more general in meaning than the word ‘aa’in (one who puts the evil eye on another), so seeking refuge with Allaah from the one who envies includes seeking refuge with Him from the one who puts the evil eye on another. The evil eye is like an arrow which comes from the soul of the one who envies and the one who puts the evil eye on another towards the one who is envied and on whom the evil eye is put; sometimes it hits him and sometimes it misses. If the target is exposed and unprotected, it will affect him, but if the target is cautious and armed, the arrow will have no effect and may even come back on the one who launched it.
    Adapted from Zaad al-Ma’aad.

There are ahaadeeth from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) which speak of the effects of the evil eye. For example it is narrated in al-Saheehayn that ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to tell me to recite ruqyah for protection against the evil eye.

Muslim, Ahmad and al-Tirmidhi narrated from Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The evil eye is real and if anything were to overtake the divine decree, it would be the evil eye. When you are asked to take a bath (to provide a cure) from the influence of the evil eye, you should take a bath.” This was classed as saheeh by al-Tirmidhi, and also by al-Albaani in al-Silsilah al-Saheehah, 1251.

Imam Ahmad and al-Tirmidhi (2059, where he classed it as saheeh) narrated that Asma’ bint ‘Umays said: “O Messenger of Allaah, the children of Ja’far have been afflicted by the evil eye, shall we recite ruqyah for them?” He said, “Yes, for if anything were to overtake the divine decree it would be the evil eye.” Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi.

The majority of scholars are of the view that people can indeed be afflicted by the evil eye, because of the ahaadeeth quoted above and others, and because of the corroborating reports and other evidence.

al-Bazzaar narrated with a hasan isnaad from Jaabir (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Most of those who die among my ummah die because of the will and decree of Allaah, and then because of the evil eye.”

The Muslim has to protect himself against the devils among the evil jinn and mankind, by having strong faith in Allaah and by putting his trust in Him and seeking refuge with Him and beseeching Him, reciting the prayers for protection narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), reciting al-Mi’wadhatayn [the last two soorahs of the Qur’aan], Soorat al-Ikhlaas, Soorat al-Faatihah, and Aayat al-Kursi. and the adkhaar of mornong and evening

Reciting ruqyah. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, “There is no ruqyah except in the case of the evil eye or fever.” al-Tirmidhi, 2057; Abu Dawood, 3884. Jibreel used to do ruqyah for the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and say, “Bismillaahi arqeeka min kulli shay’in yu’dheeka, min sharri kulli nafsin aw ‘aynin haasid Allaahu yashfeek, bismillaahi arqeek

(In the name of Allaah I perform ruqyah for you, from everything that is harming you, from the evil of every soul or envious eye may Allaah heal you, in the name of Allaah I perform ruqyah for you).”

There is nothing wrong with taking precautions against the evil eye before it happens, and this does not contradict the idea of tawakkul (putting one's trust in Allaah). In fact this is tawakkul, because tawakkul means putting one’s trust in Allaah whilst also implementing the means that have been permitted or enjoined. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to seek refuge for al-Hasan and al-Husayn and say: U’eedhukuma bi kalimaat Allaah al-taammati min kulli shaytaanin wa haammah wa min kulli ‘aynin laammah

(I seek refuge for you both in the perfect words of Allaah, from every devil and every poisonous reptile, and from every evil eye).’”

Al-Tirmidhi, 2060; Abu Dawood, 4737. And he would say, “Thus Ibraaheem used to seek refuge with Allaah for Ishaaq and Ismaa’eel, peace be upon them both.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 3371.

    Protection from evil eye

As i said earlier , evil eye can really harm us n its serious , but again Alhumdoillah we have very easy and beautiful ways of precation n protection from sunnah of our prophet sala lahu alihi wa sallam.

We should do our prayers on time.

We should do the adkhaar of evening and morning

Not only will Allah protect us from evil eye, but also from envy , hasad , and even magic and other evils , and from the shayateen n all sort of evil that is out there , SO WHY NOT PROTECT OURSELFS?!

And the duaas and adkhaar of morning and eveing are sooo beautiful , i really think you should all check them out and read the translations

The beautiful little booklet "Hisn Ul Muslim" does have those adkhaar , and it has been translated to a lot of languages alhumdolillah and offcourse with arabic text of the duaas. Fortification of the Muslim

Also u can check it out online at www.makedua.com check the morning and evening section.

From amongst them is reciting after fajr and maghrib prayers The surahs Ikhlaas , Al Falaq and An Naas three times each.

N reciting ayat al kursi in the morningand evening.

And other Beautiful duas , so do check it out.

www.makedua.com you can browse it alphabetically , so just go to E and you will find the duaas in the adkhaar for evening and go to M to find the adkhaar for Morning

So always always do your prayers and never forget or neglect the Morning and evening rememberances!

And the Brothers , ponder over this beautiful hadeeth.

Muslim (657) narrated that Jundub ibn ‘Abd-Allaah said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever prays Fajr is under the protection of Allaah, so do not fall short with regard to the rights of Allaah, for anyone who does that, Allaah will seize him and will throw him on his face into the Fire of Hell.”

Al-Teebi (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: The reason why Fajr prayer is singled out for mention here is because of the hardship that it entails, and performing it is a sign of a man’s sincerity and faith, and whoever is a sincere believer is under the protection of Allaah. Sharh Mishkaat al-Masaabeeh by al-Teebi (2/184).

How perfect You are O Allaah, and I praise You. I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped except You. I seek Your forgiveness and turn to You in repentance

Re: Good things & evil eye

Of course, not. Just to basically protect ourselves from all mishaps, you can recite any duas from the Quran and pray to Allah for safety. As far as evil eye is concerned, too much stress from being superstition can cause problems itself.
