Both my parents can speak Chinese too (Mum - Hokkien, Dad - Mandarin) but they dont know how to read Chinese too...

But isn't that what they learn in all of those SJK(C)'s all over the place?

    And are your parents Chinese?

I signed up for Mandarin classes but the lady took 4 months to get back to me, and by that time I was like fuh-gettitt :blind:

I dont have any friends who studied in SRJK(C).... maybe because they only mingle among themselves....

Both of my parents are non-Chinese (but we look like one)...most of my parents colleagues are Chinese....and they managed to pick up the language.

My younger sister attended Mandarin class in IIUM years ago ...when she was crazy about anything "Taiwan".

And the youngest sister (an anime fan) is learning Japanese a lil bit.

but I read somewhere that in japanese schools they are suffering there to teach their students Kanji....they even tried to reduce the number of kanji characters to make it easy on people there.....
I wonder why they still keep them, if they suffering that much
