Assalamu alaikum brothers and sisters!

There are many people who are looking for stable employment in this economy. When I first reverted to Islam, a fellow muslimah told me that I must quit my jobs to study Quran, learn Arabic, and remove myself from the "duneyah" (sp).

Of course that made no sense to me because I have financial responsibilities that I must continue and I am not trying to be homeless, insh'Allah.

DO you all work in a particular field that may be Muslim friendly or that you would suggest to an out of work Muslim? Are you allowed to pray at work?

In my region, I rarely see hijabed ladies working. I would assume they don't wear hijab to work or work from home. I would like to see more though.

Medical, Early Childhood Education, General Education, and Customer Service (call center) seem to be ideal occupations.

WHat do you all think?

:sl:

you in redneck country, you don't wanna get fed to the gators!
just playin'! :D

expand your idea of customer service: hotel front desk, pharmacy, retail, halal restaurant.

as an American, teaching ESL could be a boon for you.

ma salaama

Wa'alaikumsalam,

Oh, sis, you don't need to draw yourself from "dunya". But you should make "dunya" as the field to collect rewards for "akheera' (hereafter). You have income, don't you?. Feed poor people, this is one of many things you can do to collect rewards in the field that called "dunya".

network engineering = 1 year if you're going for the CCNA certification or 2 years for both CCNA and CCNP

Wa salaam!
I like your humor, but we Muslims do experience lots of discrimination in the workplace (if we are even hired).
Its even worse for my husband, who is foreign. We are considering relocating so that he can get a better job.

Thanks!
I currently sell some items on ebay and donate a portion of the funds to local charities.
I work in the child education field, so trust me, I deal with "dunya" on a daily basis and it is very taxing emotionally and spiritually. I've resigned at least four times and each time I come back, they rehire me. lol

:salamext:

Currently an English teacher but very soon to be a web designer inshaa'Allah.

Most of the people I work with are Muslim. There is segregation, sisters with hijab and even niqab work where I work and prayer has never been a problem and I don't work in an Islamic school!

I have a part time job as in a retail store - I wear my hijab and jilbab (even though we have uniforms, I'm allowed to wear it) Also I know with a lot of jobs people miss their prayers. I usually only miss one sometimes more. But I make up for my prayers by reading them later on.

Salamualkum

I am assuming you are in the USA. Is that correct? My best advice is there is a book titled "How Allah Provides" by Muhammad al-Sha'rawi. If you search online you will be able to find a copy for a few dollars if not free. The reason I am suggesting this book is to have a foundation of how Allah is the provider. Yes we put effort yes we struggle but first we connect our heart to Allah and submit that Allah is the provider and we seek his guidance about guiding us to the right job that will benefit us in this life and the next life. There are so many jobs in the USA and college can not prepare you for all this jobs. For example in the IT world there is so many different software's that company's use no way in college they will be able to teach you this information.

For example, there are many people that started jobs working on a specific career but things happened in there department they took new roles and all of a sudden they are working in a field that is brand new. who opened it? Allah. Did they plan it? no So Allah with his ultimate wisdom can take you to a career that you would never imagine.

I will recommend what a beloved dear person recommended for me.

- when looking for a job look for something that is challenging within your abilities . Always Challenge yourself and look for something that has a future.

1. Beg Allah to open for you a job that will make your provision easy and able to fulfill your duty as a Muslim. (Easy to pray on time, fast, take off during Ramadan, or whatever it might be)
2. Go to job websites like Monster, Career builder, Dice and many other and see things that are challenging and interests you. And from there look at the qualifications and how you can meet those qualifications.

So far from my experience as a Male Muslim in the USA if you truly want to please Allah and not compromise the religion if you are sincere Allah will open for you. It is difficult in the beginning but once you get the courage and you politely tell your employer that you have religious obligations they will meet it. So far from my experience it has been so easy by the will of Allah.

For example, I work in an office I am able to pray all my prays on time. we have phone rooms I pray in there with another brother. Another time we had many brothers and I contacted human resources and requested accommodation so we can pray. The building was packed and we did not have any room but they graciously accommodated us. Also for example before I start a job I send a friendly email explaining i do not shake hands with women. And while working with non Muslims if you pray, fast, be open and explain it to them so at least they have some understanding.. and the worst that will happen is maybe some ugly stares but if you have faith in Allah it will not be a problem.

If your faith is shaky then it will be a problem you will have fear in your heart and you will compromise your religion

It is so great in the USA that we have religious freedom and we are able to be accommodated in the workplace.

I hope I was able to answer your question. and I apologize if I wrote too long. May Allah forgive my mistakes they are from me. And any goodness is from Allah.

walaykuma s'salaam,

if you are a native speaker then teaching might be best option for you. Islamic schools love to hire native speakers, especially if you are a Muslim. If you have a BS then you could go via alterantive certifications route into teaching. ESL is your ideal choice as you would be surprised how many will demand you for your native accent and skills. Not mention you could even find a job in M.E. easily as well.
