Re: Questions about Judaism awnsered by a Jew!

Thank you... how was prophet Mohammed wrong? We believe in the one God we pray we fast, we give Alms we make pilgrimage... I don't see how any of that would not be in concert with your practice or for that matter what jesus preached so I am not really sure why Jews reject them.... anymore than I am sure why christians reject Islam... on a very purist level you'll find the words of the texts have NOT changed that much in the fundamentals.... you are right of course in a sense of trinity is not in concert with monotheism and borders upon idolatry actually but I don't think that was Jesus' intent at least not in accordance with the original bible of Barnbas... many refused the views of Arius stating God takes no sons in favor of the deacon Athanasius.... thus we have this new modern Christianity which I believe is completely distorted from the teachings of Jesus... Anyhow thanks for your time

Re: Questions about Judaism awnsered by a Jew!

Hello lavikor201,

I haven't read the entire thread (i don't have the time to read 12 pages right now, God Willing in the future) so forgive me for asking a question which has already been answered.

Q. Is there such thing as Hell in Judaism? I was involved in a discussion recently, and i used a verse out of the Jewish scriptures which mentioned the Day of Judgement, but was then told Jews do not believe in Hell. If you don't believe in Hell, then where do all the sinners and transgressors of God go?

Thank you. :)

Judaism does have a concept of reward and punishment in the afterlife. However, since words we use bring to mind certain images, particularly “Heaven” and “Hell,” it is better to use the Jewish terminology which comes without the baggage.

When someone dies, the disembodied soul leaves this sensory world and enters “Gan Eden,” the spiritual Garden of Eden (a.k.a. “Heaven”). In the Garden of Eden, the soul enjoys the “rays of the Divine Presence,” a purely spiritual enjoyment dependent on the Torah learning and good deeds done while in a body. Every year on the yahrtzeit, the day of passing, the soul ascends to another level closer to G-d. This gives it tremendous pleasure.

Before entering the Garden of Eden, though, every soul must be refined, for it cannot enjoy the Divine Presence to the fullest degree with the pleasures and coarseness of our physical world still engraved on it. These would give the soul poor “reception” of divine radiance, and must be removed.

In order to restore the level of purity the soul had possessed before entering the physical world, it must undergo a degree of refinement commensurate to the degree which the body may have indulged itself. If a person sinned in this lifetime, as most of us do, then, to continue the radio analogy, we have serious interference. This means there is even more cleaning to be done. This cleaning process hurts, but is a spiritual and mental process designed not for retribution, but to allow one to truly enjoy his/her reward in Gan Eden. This cleaning process is called “Gehinom,” or, in the vernacular, “Hell.”

Now there is one more place that does not even have a name. The place is for the people that did not just commit 'little sins' but for the ones who murder, rape, and have made the earth worse off. People like Hitler, Stalin, and other bad people will never have the chance to go to heaven and we do not know what G-d does with them. But we know that wedon not want to know.

how was prophet Mohammed wrong?

He did not fufill the requirements set forth by G-d to be a prophet.

Re: Questions about Judaism awnsered by a Jew!

Another Question: Are there specific penalties for those who transgress God's commandments? Are there guidelines for man to judge fellow man and punish him accordingly if they step out of line (i'm presuming that in a Jewish State Jews will live by Jewish Scriptures)?

Actually, the State of Israel's law is not based on Jewish scriptures at all. It is based on some but not all. Most of the laws are based on morality, and freedom of religion (denied to the jews in europe). Another reason was because many Jews felt it was wrong to impose Jewish law on non-jewish citizens living in the State of Israel, which make up around 20% of Israeli citizens.

Jewish Law though does provide guidelines for man to follow and how to judge/punish your fellow man if they do something wrong.

Re: Questions about Judaism awnsered by a Jew!

What is said about respecting other religions and tolleration....Can we please have a quote from the torah :) Thnk u....

Re: Palestinian-israeli Conflict - By Lamaggad & lavikor201 :)

As a Jew I must follow all 613 laws. Converting to Islam won't get me off the hook... lol.

Do you have any links where I can read all these laws? I'd like to compare them to Christianity.

TIA

Re: Questions about Judaism awnsered by a Jew!

My question is not to offend. But do you follow Jewdaism on blind faith, or have you done enough research to know that this is the true religion based on facts and science and all types of knowledge?

Re: Questions about Judaism awnsered by a Jew!

I have two questions that i have posted earlier in different thread..
the very small thing that you put on top of your head when you are reading Torah.. what is it and what is the purpose of it?

and also when you are done praying, is it a must for you to wear white shirt that has threads coming out of it?! and what is the purpose of it..?

Thanks :)

Re: Questions about Judaism awnsered by a Jew!

WHat are the requirements by G-d to be a prophet? How did Moses(AS) meet these requirements while Jesus(AS) and Mohammad (PBUH) Didn't?

from what I understand, the 3rd law in Talmud refers to persecuted Jews, does that mean the ones that are not persecuted have no right to be a part of israel?

I thought that the way to enter Israel again for jews is to Obey G-d and repent as mentioned in the Torah, But from what I understand you are saying no on G-ds obedience but random chance of random jews being persecuted by Gentiles. What happens to the ones that don't get persecuted, do they wait to get persecuted before entering or are they regarded as gentiles?

Does Your new state in israel tolerate gentiles (Non-Jews)? what does your Talmud say regarding tolerating other religions and races (Gentiles)? I know the Torah shows tolerance but heard only intolerance from the Talmud, of course what I heard could be wrong and thats where you come in :D

And about the third Law regarding Persecution by Gentile(Non-jew), I have not seen it in the Torah. The Talmud is not a devine revelation such as the Torah, The Injil (Bible) or the Qur'an, the Talmud is made up of scribes/pheresis who had completely overturned the Old testament/Torah substituting them for their own opinions called the "oral tradition".

Although I do agree a lot of Jews died in WW2, and many other people... gentiles as you call them, I do not believe Hitler was explicitly out to kill the jews or there was a holocost, to my knowledge the death of 6 million jews dew to gas chambers/holocaust it is all propaganda and there is not enough evidence to prove it actually happened. But thats another topic altogether.

Thank for da info and peace.

Re: Questions about Judaism awnsered by a Jew!

Question: What does it mean to be a cultural Jew? (Not implying that you are as you have said on occasions that you are an Orthodox Jew.)

Re: Questions about Judaism awnsered by a Jew!

Question: What does it mean to be a cultural Jew? (Not implying that you are as you have said on occasions that you are an Orthodox Jew.)

To understand this, you must understand what a "Jewish Community" really is.

Unlike other religions Jews usually stay very close to eachother in tight nit communities. Because of the diatary laws, ect, Jews have a hard time survivng outside of "Jewish Areas"... It is possible, but it is very easy to be a Jew in a Jewish area, so some of the Jews who really do not practice the religion that much still live in these areas, and there culture is centered around Judaism even though they do not in a sense practice much of the religion.

I thought that the way to enter Israel again for jews is to Obey G-d and repent as mentioned in the Torah, But from what I understand you are saying no on G-ds obedience but random chance of random jews being persecuted by Gentiles. You don't wait, to get persecuted. Jews were thriving in Poland, and the only reason they would ever leave is because of persecution anyway. It is a very difficult subject. But to have an overall understanding of the verse you must know Talmud, and know the fact that much of Talmud is conversations of Rabbi's and conflicting opinions.

PM me if you want me to go in depth if you are very interested in more.

from what I understand, the 3rd law in Talmud refers to persecuted Jews, does that mean the ones that are not persecuted have no right to be a part of israel?

No, the Jewish people in general were persecuted. But either way it is irrelevant because the state of Israel is not actually run by Jewish law or the Sandrehin courts.

Again, PM me if you want me to go in depth if you are very interested.

WHat are the requirements by G-d to be a prophet? How did Moses(AS) meet these requirements while Jesus(AS) and Mohammad (PBUH) Didn't?

When HaShem sends a prophet, He gives the prophet a sign to show that he is a true prophet. However, not every person who shows such a sign is automatically accepted. The prophet must be known to be a great, wise, and righteous person. If he is such a person, then we are commanded to accept and obey him if he comes with a sign.

Even if a prophet passes all of these tests if he attempts to contradict the Torah in any way he is automatically shown to be false. This requirement can disqualify any prophet at any time. A prophet may not add or detract from the Torah in any way, this applies to both the Written Torah and the Oral Torah. Therefore, any prophet who claims that a certain mitzvah is no longer required or that a new mitzvah has been added to the Torah shows himself to be a false prophet and is judged accordingly. This is true even if he performs miracles.

Judaism also (based on Deuteronomy Ch. 13 and 18:20) holds that no true prophet will create a new faith or religion as a successor to Judaism.

what does your Talmud say regarding tolerating other religions and races (Gentiles)?

Maimonides, Mishneh Torah, Hilchot Teshuvah 3:4 based on Tosefta Sanhedrin 13:1; Talmud Sanhedrin 105a

Righteous gentiles have a place in the world to come

Jerusalem Talmud Peah 1:1

It says: (J37-23) "With justice and an abundance of kindness, He does not deal harshly." G-d does not withhold reward from gentiles who perform His commandments.

the very small thing that you put on top of your head when you are reading Torah.. what is it and what is the purpose of it?

You do not just put it on to read Torah. It is put on every morning during prayers except on Saturday's, and Holy Days.

It is called: Teffilin

Tefillin (Hebrew: תפלין), also called phylacteries, are either of two boxes containing Biblical verses and black, leather straps attached to them which are used in rabbinic Jewish prayer. They are an essential part of morning prayer services, and are worn on a daily basis (except the Sabbath and festivals) by many Jews. Tefillin and phylacteries are plural the singulars are tefilla and phylactery. In this article the term “to lay tefillin” will be used throughout but it is still correct to use “wear”.

Tefillin stems from interpretations of passages found in the Torah (five books of Moses), in Deuteronomy 6:8, 11:18; Exodus 13:9, 16. While these passages were interpreted literally by most commentators (in contrast to the interpretation of Karaite Judaism, Abraham ibn Ezra, and Rashbam on Exodus 13:9), the Rabbis held that the general law only was expressed in the Bible, the application and elaboration of it being entirely matters of the oral law. The earlier tannaim (rabbis of the Mishnah) described their views of the tefillin in the Mishnah and Talmud. (Talmud references: Menachot 34b; Zeb. 37b; Sanhedrin 4b; Rashi and Tosafot ad loc. )

and also when you are done praying, is it a must for you to wear white shirt that has threads coming out of it?! and what is the purpose of it..?

You can mean two things: Tallit Katan, or Tallit Gadol.

Tallit Katan
The tallit katan (traditionally known as tallét ketannah amongst Sephardim), or "small" tallit, is worn for the duration of the day by Orthodox Jewish men. While it should not be worn directly on the skin, it is often worn beneath one's shirt (yet above an undershirt) so as to conform to societal dress codes. However, Chassidim tend to wear them on top of their shirts, as they do not desire to conform to the modern Western-style mode of dress. They do, however, wear a suit vest over their tallit katan.

Tallit Gadol
The tallit gadol (traditionally known as tallét gedolah amongst Sephardim), or "large" tallit, is worn over ones clothing resting on the shoulders. This is the prayer shawl that is worn during the morning services in synagogue and by the leader of the prayers during some other services.

The Torah states in Numbers 15:38: "Speak to the children of Israel and you shall say to them that they shall make for themselves fringes on the corners of their garments, throughout their generations, and they shall affix a thread of blue (Hebrew: תכלת - tekhelet) on the fringe of each corner."

Tzitzit are also commanded in Deuteronomy 22:12, which says: "You shall make yourself twisted threads, on the four corners of your garment with which you cover yourself."

What is said about respecting other religions and tolleration....Can we please have a quote from the torah Thnk u....

Not positive if it says anything, because when we were given the Torah by G-d, it was Judaism, and then the rest of the world were all pagans who were killing eachother in massive wars.

The Torah stresses to love your neighbor as yourself, and to treat strangers warmly, as long as they are not your enemies.

My question is not to offend. But do you follow Jewdaism on blind faith, or have you done enough research to know that this is the true religion based on facts and science and all types of knowledge?

No. I have studied many religions, and I believe Judaism to be the true message. Judaism has always been the true messae.

Judaism began when over 600,000 male adults alone heard the first two Commandments from G-d and passed that legacy on to their children. Unlike many religions that started with people claiming to be prophets.

Damn that was a long post... lol. :-)

Re: Questions about Judaism awnsered by a Jew!

Salaam,

Well i am not a jew but according to some sites,no jews can enter the temple only priest can and only the hig priest can enter the holies of holies or even its vicinity.
that is why i asked lavikor if they ahve a high priest now and if the jews whom are not priest ,can they enter the vicinity of the wailing wall?
For suposedly it is near the holies of holies?

Does the wall itself make itself holy or the content of the holies of Holies?

According to the tanakh, the holies of holie can only be described such ONLY WHEN THE ARC OF THE COVENAT is inside.

So the wailing wall itself is not holy but the it is the"as lavikor said,a remembrance to a time when they were great"

B]

These verses show tolerance of G-d towards gentiles or Non-jews. are there any instructions in the Talmud to Jews about how behave towards gentiles :?

For example from the Qur'an we have instructions on how non-muslims should be treated and we also have examples of our Prohets(Saw):

And We have sent down to you (O Muhammad SAW) the Book (this Qur'ân) in truth, confirming the Scripture that came before it and Mohayminan (trustworthy in highness and a witness) over it (old Scriptures)[]. So
judge between them by what Allâh has revealed, and follow not their vain desires, diverging away from the truth that has come to you. To each among you, We have prescribed a law and a clear way. If Allâh willed,
He would have made you one nation, but that (He) may test you in what He has given you; so strive as in a race in good deeds. The return of you (all) is to Allâh; then He will inform you about that in which you used to
differ. (5:48)

the Prophet strictly warned against any maltreatment of people of other faiths. He said:

“Beware! Whoever is cruel and hard on a non-Muslim minority, or curtails their rights, or burdens them with more than they can bear, or takes anything from them against their free will; I (Prophet Muhammad) will complain against the person on the Day of Judgment.” (Abu Dawud)

Thanks for the replies, appreciate your time and effort. Peace:)

Re: Questions about Judaism awnsered by a Jew!

For example from the Qur'an we have instructions on how non-muslims should be treated and we also have examples of our Prohets(Saw):

The Torah and the Talmud tell us to treat others with respect. But in reality, when the Torah was given to us, there was not really such a thing as 'religious tolderance' because we were basically the only religion all the other people just worshiped the pagan gods. We are to treat gentiles with respect, but at this time when we recieved the Torah, 99% of the world were worshiping pagan gods, and in Judaism you are to chose death over worship of pagan gods, which is why most Jews in Spain chose death over converting to Christianity during the inquisition, because they viewed Jesus as a pagan god to them.

In the Talmud is says to treat gentiles kindly, and with respect, and in the Torah it says to love my neighbor, and love strangers the same way you would wish to be loved.

So the wailing wall itself is not holy but the it is the"as lavikor said,a remembrance to a time when they were great"

The Western Wall is Holy. Not just a rememberance of a time when we had our temple...

Jews have prayed at the Western Wall for two thousand years, believing that that spot has greater holiness than any other accessible place on Earth, or the fourth holiest overall, after the Holy of Holies, the rest of the Temple area, and the Courtyard, and that G-d is nearby listening to their prayers. The tradition of placing prayer written on the small piece of paper into a crack in the Wall goes back thousands of years. Included in the thrice daily Jewish prayers are fervent pleas that G-d return to the Land of Israel, ingather all the Jewish exiles, rebuild the Third Temple, and bring the messianic era with the arrival of Jewish Messiah (Mashiach).

The Western Wall is holy to the Jewish people because this wall is part of a wall that encompasses the Temple Mount along with the southern and eastern sections. This encompassing wall is thought to be the only remnant of the Temple in Jerusalem and the closest site to the "Holy of Holies", the most holy site in Judaism. Of the three wall sections, eastern, southern and western, the western is the traditional site of prayer.

Can the temple be a very big complex, where it's divided equally among Muslims and Jews, which they can pray together in the same building like the Hebron mosque?

I do not know for sure, but I really doubt it. Its irrelevant though because once the Moshiach comes and rebuilds the third temple Muslims will not longer follow Islam, they will follow the seven laws of Noah and will be granted access to heaven.

Basically, when the Moshiach comes, and he reveals G-d's truth to the world, all of you on this board really will not care that we are building our temple on the mount. You will probably encourage it.

Sooo... if Muslims openly offer this solution... the Jews would ONLY say...NO!?
I dont know about Jews, but for Muslims IS NOT OUR DUTY TO WAIT FOR AL MAHDI... When he comes..he comes...in the meantime we have to solve all this prob ourselves...

if any one who isn't a Jew but converted to Judaism, is it a MUST for him to follow the 613 laws. or he can only follow the 7 laws since his mother isn't a Jew BUT he's following Judaism..?

If you convert to Judaism you are expected to follow all the laws. When you convert to Judaism you are a Jew. Your no different to any other Jew born into it or not.

There is no problem. The Jews do not wish to build anything on the Temple Mount until the Moshiach comes. When the Moshiach comes, it won't be a dispute.
