Musharraf assumes nuclear control

Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf has put the country's nuclear weapons under the control of the president, rather than the prime minister.
The president issued an ordinance - which has to be ratified by parliament some time over the next six months - which formalised his control on Friday.

His move comes amid concern abroad that the nuclear arsenal could fall into the hands of Islamist extremists.

The military says that its nuclear weapons security is "foolproof".

It's good that they are addressing the issue at least, although I have a feeling that the Pakistani military's idea of "foolproof" wouldn't cut the mustard elsewhere.

Dozens dead in Pakistan attack
At least 50 people have been killed in a suicide bombing at a mosque in northwest Pakistan, apparently targeting Aftab Khan Sherpao, the country's former interior minister.

Police on Friday said the bomber blew himself up while worshippers were offering Eid prayers, detonating himself in the row behind the former minister.

Sherpao was unharmed, but one of his sons was injured, local authorities said.

"Yes, I'm fine," Sherpao told The Associated Press.

To whoever committed that atrocity, let me just paraphrase Samuel L. Jackson:

'Yes you deserved to die and I hope you burn in hell!'

50 ruined families lifes :( and he didn't killed who he wanted.

Wait a minute...this chap is apparently targeted for lacking sensitivity toward Islam and being too tough on the Red Mosque cherubs....and the solution is for a pious and angry type to desecrate a mosque by murdering a bunch of his fellow muslims and splattering blood about. :hmm:

Good thing he didn't drop a Quran on the ground or something, eh?

What is that word..it starts with "hypo" and ....

after the red mosque thing, al-qaeda has declared jihad on pakistan.
so far over 600 people have died. :unhappy:

I really believe the police should come in my country to learn about people control and certain tactics to discover the potential "bad" people.

Pakistan government under attack
Benazir Bhutto, leader of the Pakistan People's Party, has said that some of her country's religious schools are turning children into killers.

Speaking to a 25,000-strong crowd near her ancestral home in the southern town of Larkana on Sunday, she also renewed accusations the government had done nothing to stop extremist violence.

"They always try to stop democratic forces but don't make any effort to check extremists, terrorists and fanatics," Bhutto said.

i haven't the foggiest idea who would be best for pakistan.
bhutto has looted the country for over $1 billion.
the future of pakistan doesn't look good.
what do pakistanis here think - who smells the least bad?

All Pakistani politicians are corrupt, even the religious alliance, though not to the extent of the secular parties. If Pakistan's leaders do not want to implement shariah, which is the solution to all its problems, I say might as well destroy Pakistan and reunite with India. It is better to live under secular Hindu government than secular "Muslim" government. This is why many of the great ulama opposed creation of Pakistan, they knew from very beginning it is a fraud and deception. Their warnings have come true.

1. Those who don't belong to the families, slaughtered by Hindus during the bloodiest partition, still hold the same opinion. How easy it is to forget trains coming from India to Pakistan full of blood and dead bodies.

2. If you have the time, read Jinnah of Pakistan by Stanley Walport.

how do you feel about al-qaeda's declaration of jihad on pakistan?
you're right that many of the religious scholars were opposed to its creation, but i have not read their reasoning. (i imagine there were a number of reasons).

wowie - i looked at amazon.com and that is one expensive book!
do you think jinnah (who was secular) envisioned an islamic state or a homeland for muslims?

this is a controversial subject and unfortunately, jinnah died shortly after independence. but does it make sense to you that a secular, non-practicing muslim would want a shariah state?

In a broadcast to the people of United States of America in February, 1948, Jinnah declared that the Constitution of Pakistan would be a democratic type, embodyinq the essential principles of Islam which are as applicable in modern life as they were 1300 years ago. He said: "Islam has taught us democracy, equality, justice and fairplay to everybody and Muslims are inheritors of these glorious traditions and fully alive to their responsibilities and obligations.”

The question whether Pakistan should call itself a Muslim State was raised by Maulana Jamal Mian Farangi Mahal at the Karachi meeting of the All India Muslim League Council held in December, 1947 where Jinnah declared: "let it be clear that Pakistan is going to be a Muslim State based on Islamic Ideals.”

If he had wanted a secular Pakistan, what was wrong with Muslims and Hindus living together in a secular and united India?

a democratic state that is draws its inspiration from islam and its ideals from islam is not the same as a shariah state.
