    Assalam o Alaikum,

Can the word فَاغۡفِرۡ لَـنَا faghfirlana
be translated as 'so protect us' in addition to 'so forgive us'

Also according to the context of the Quranic verse
in 11:41 where Nuh (AS) is praying to Allah the word ghafoor be translated as 'protector'?

I have not yet come across any English translations of the above verse where it is translated as 'protector'. The point is can someone say about this verse 'Since Nuh (AS) and his companions were already on the ship and the prophets are sinless, hence he was asking for protection and not for forgiveness because of the dangers involved in their journey.' ?

Re: Different translations of ghafara غفر

    First:
the word "ghafoor" comes from "ghafara" which means "to cover" or "to fix" ,when used with the almighty ,it means to pardon, forgive ..... as if the sins were covered, disappeared ... and those who are forgiven are protected from hell ...

second : Prophets are not sinless, most (if not all) had minor sins-mistakes which by no mean degrade their position as prophets...
