Greetings,

HeiGou said:
And there's no use of smileys for the other gender. I wonder, can I put a smiley on a reply to czgibson? Hmm, have to try that and see if I get a warning.

Hey! What are you trying to say?!

Peace

Seen mine? Class! :p

Too right. Nice shiny high-quality colors too. Top of the range, mate.

And I am not just saying that because I don't want to get banned.
That word, though magic, makes me sad.

Let me rephrase that, I'd say that even if I was desparate to get banned. I don't always agree with many people around here but the Mods have been ever helpful, always polite and very informative. Their rules are stricter than I would like, I have some problems understanding why I get my demerits, not that I am complaining, but over-all I'd say this is a great site, I appreciate the effort you all have put in and I'll miss it when I'm gone.

Still not allowed flags or pics of humans in sigs.

Right.

Feel free to flame the mods now, naysayers. :)

Ha! I thought I looked at that and didn't see that the date had been changed. So I assumed that it had not been changed either. My mistake.

Oh nothing. Big Boy. ;)

All knowledge comes to those who wait and listen. Skillgannon's got a "Fitnah Alert" for a post responding to Joe98 in a threat entitled "George Washington SomethingorotherIforget" in World Affairs. To the best of my knowledge they are both male and neither is the sort to go up the mountain herding sheep if you know what I mean.

Dude. I was just about to eat lunch.

Mods make mistakes too. Again, look at me for the prime example of 'When Moderating Goes Wrong'

Yet you still sign on and post regularly?
Far7an, I find this board challenging. I like to post here, all unpleasantries (being removed from the Sisters' Section, being warned for calling a troll a troll) aside.

I know you'd rather I go away, but no luck.

I'd wink now, but it would apparently cause fitna.

Recently things have gotten very restrictive and the life has kinda been sucked out of it compared to before. I still sign on and post - waaaaay less regularly, BTW - in the hopes that this site will recover some of its zip.

That is all.

they prob aint 'lil' things :-\

i think its fine how it is.............they r just doing there job 'correctly' it wud help if u 'co-operated'.......mite help a bit........im sure ur free to come and go as u plz.....no ones 'saying' your not wanted but it wud help if we cud all follow the rules tht are set...m sure they aint there for decoration..........

peace !

Alpha Dude i don't remember your previous signature.

Actually if he did he could probably do something about that.

But the main point of my post is to say I like your signature. It is Frank Herbet right? Let me think, presumably Children of Dune?

:sl:

Yes, just after the Mods starting removing avatars and sigs with flags or people in them. Before that was deleting our ability to send a note with our approval/disapproval points, and before that monitoring private messages.
And why did we do it? Because they were all abused, or because they were potential avenues for causing problems.

Next will be all smileys deleted for causing fitna, then warnings for not using :sl: :w: around every post, then all non-Muslims and those perceived to be insufficiently in agreement with the moderators will be removed to a separate section, the "dhimmi" board.
Nonsense.

This board is, like, hyper micromanaged. It's irritating. Why have avatars if you can only use random patterns? Why selectively ban people's posts, delete others without notice or leaving behind a record that the posts were edited?
Avatars can consist of more than random patterns. As for deleting or editing posts, we remove content that goes against the purpose behind the forum. Anything that promotes inauthentic teachings or offensive material is removed and despite the fact that many of these actions are self-explanatory, we do leave behind notes and signs of editions.

And for Heaven's sake, why was I punished with a "percentage warning" for making a pun about ahâdith about dogs and the name of Abu Hurayra ("Father of the Kitten")?
Joking about Islam is quite understandably deserving of punishment.

As for your specific warnings, I can't really comment on them all and it would be better to handle such issues via pm if you have a problem. While it seems that we are strict, you will find that its for the good of the whole forum - we are trying to implement correct Islam manners and teachings by closing doors that lead to fitnah and threaten a peaceful atmosphere.

Peace, Muhammad.

Ah, because we should have no humour. I wonder, how did 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Sakhr get the pseudo-filionymic "Father of the Kitten"? Surely not because it was humourous.

Oh, I've run that route.

Fair enough, but I would end my commentary on the matter by simply observing that at a certain point, Big Brother is no longer peaceful. It makes people nervous to post.

Well so are smiley's allowed or not?
If allowed which ones?

It is anyone's choice wether or not to use the smileys. That is between you and the fate of Allah(swt).

There isn't a rule that says 'smileys' are forbidden now is there? If there was, then there wouldn't be any smileys at all.

If a sister or brother decides to wink at each other then fine they are doing it at their own RISK this teaches people to become responsible for themselves once in a lifetime. Atleast they won't be stupid enough not to know that caused fitnah.

Greetings,

Ah, because we should have no humour.
Sometimes humour borders on being disrespectful, in which case it is no longer funny. I remind myself first before others of the following verse in the Qur'an:

[9.65] And if you should question them, they would certainly say: We were only idly discoursing and sporting. Say: Was it at Allah and His communications and His Apostle that you mocked?

Oh, I've run that route.
Then I hope it answered your questions.

Fair enough, but I would end my commentary on the matter by simply observing that at a certain point, Big Brother is no longer peaceful. It makes people nervous to post.
It seems that you are making this much 'worse' than it actually is. We do not oversee every pm that is sent, nor do we read every post that goes out; rather we try to simply find and remove that which is unneeded and address issues that raise concern - members themselves are often the ones who bring us to the 'scene of the crime'! I hope that helps to clarify.

Peace.

Well there is a little problem for us non-Muslims because we do not know the risk having no prior knowledge of proper behaviour, or at least not much. What is acceptable to us is fitnah to you. But I think I am clear on smiley's. So may I ask about PMs. Would you advise me against PM'ing a Sister on the simple grounds that we would not talk in private so we should not PM in private? Or does the fact that the Mods can, theoretically, read them amount to the presence of a chaperone and make it acceptable? I guess not. Would you advise against even reading a PM if a Sister sends one?

With non-muslims, I can certainaly understand, because the rules don't apply to you.

What is acceptable to us is fitnah to you.

Which is why I have said, the rule doesn't apply to non-muslims. We are on different levels, we take this much more seriously than you people do. Not only that, we have different beliefs and this is like a religious based campaign for any other muslim.

But I think I am clear on smiley's.

Alhamdulilah, however, if you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

So may I ask about PMs. Would you advise me against PM'ing a Sister on the simple grounds that we would not talk in private so we should not PM in private?

No brother is forbidden to PM a sister. However, this is under one condition. I do not advice a brother or any non-mahram to PM a sister just for the sake of it. There must be a valid reason to talk to her. If it is a necessity to speak with her over an important issue than alhamdulilah, that is okay.

Nevertheless, a brother has no right to PM a sister just because he wants to 'talk' or socialize. This is not advisable.

Or does the fact that the Mods can, theoretically, read them amount to the presence of a chaperone and make it acceptable? I guess not. Would you advise against even reading a PM if a Sister sends one?

In my opinon it is a logical idea that mods read pm messages vice versa. We are not at home, this is still an islamic board the same rules apply here just like they would apply at a mosque.

Gender rooms for private. PM messages between sisters and brothers are observered. If a brother or sister is in dire need to make close buddy friends with someone of the opposite gender then I advice them to go to a non-islamic disscussion board. Even though this is the internet, brothers and sisters should know their roles here even when talking to a non-muslim.
Hence, when both brothers and sisters talk to each other unnecessarily, they both should know that they are in the wrong.

Basically, regarding PM's, people should just use their common sense. Don't try lame chat-up lines here, thank you very much. :)

(and yes, that smiley is allowed. I smile all the time. I'd make a great Poker player because you wouldn't know if I had a winning hand, or a knife)

Lol@Muezzin... I agree. But sometimes when a male sends you a Pm and it is unecessary, I don't know if I should reply or not.
Insha-Allah i'll cut down on that.
