A guji elder (local mu-aZZin), who has since passed away raHimahullah, told me that's called "Hotch Potch and Curry" in English. Can anyone shed any light on that?

kitchree n karee with tarkaaree on top is cool :thumbs_up oh and raaytu :statisfie

(has this turned into a guji food thread? :giggling: )

Salaam.

I used to have kitchree n karee, but what is this other thing, tarkaaree? I can't stand it no more. There's also a variation of it called barkee I think, something like that anyway.

What about the small tiny samosa's we have? I don't know if it's a whole way Gujarati thing, but everyone around here loves our small somasa's. Oddly I like the big Pakistani ones instead.

Lol so tru...our somosas are so tiny..pakistani somosas are twice as big and yeah they are very nice.

Dont like the meat ones prefer the chicken ones....:statisfie

Salaam.

I hate all red meat anyway, so I only get chicken and even sometimes veg filled samosas. And for the sake of it, all samosas made my everyone's mum are the best for them. But really, my mum makes the best.

Salaam.

Hey that's called khamri. The blocked ones are called khamman, and the rolled up ones are called khamri. Am I on the same page here?

:sl:
i dunno prolly all khandwi has many names! its a rolled up besan dish... and its steamed dats all i knw!

Salaam.

Lovely Zak.

And if you ever come to West Yorkshire, there's a shop in Batley that sells really nice khamman and khamri.

Salaam.

I think served as a dish, it's called what Sanobar says it is. But we get them in blocks, and it's called khamman. And I'm sure khamman is steamed and made from besan too.

Ooh Zak, go out and buy some for lunch. Eat some for me too.

We get some guys coming round every Sunday who sells homemade Khamun.
Unbeatable. :)

Salaam.

That shop too sells it's own homemade Khaman. Hehe. But it's some miles away, so we only get it the odd times in a fort-year.

Can we move onto paterya now? Does anyone know what they are? Not that nice, but they're made from big and I mean huge leaves, filled with some yellow gooey looking stuff, sliced into rolls, and then shallow fried.

:sl:

and crispy :D taste nice sometimes

jirik haru che :D

We call them something else but you're right they only taste nice sometimes :)

I remember we made them at home once and they turned out wrong and wernt done properly......because theres this long process in making them I think.
I think, I dont really know......... because I didnt make them, mum did :)

 at last the confusion is over eh? and yeah zAk.... i knw the shop...they sell some nice KHANDVIS! :haha:
